I used DIY Detail gold standard yellow waffle pad and their polish. I certainly will check and maybe add or change the grease. I am close to Germany, so I could pick up the polisher for a lot less (let’s say 150 $). Shinemate is more expensive over here. I am buy no means a professional. I’m a rotary guy. Always will be. Have had a Rupes LH 19 for 10+ years. Never stalls, never fails, always gets the job done flawlessly. Grease change every couple years, that’s all the maintenance I need. DA’s are fine, I have a few. I never use them. I was apprenticed on a rotary so I just stick to what I know. 😊
@Ecdetails

@@Ecdetails Pads, I’ve used a bunch over the decades. Buff and Shine, Lake Country, 3M and even Chemical Guys, Griots and Adam’s. But I switched over to Menzerna a long time ago. I also use a few Rupes pads now and then. Products, I stick to Menzerna mainly. I still use Sonax from time to time. But I have used a bunch over the years. I’ve had a bunch of polishers, both DA and rotaries. Some I still have, some I sold, some I gave away. I always come back to the Rupes rotary, it’s simply the best I’ve used and it works best for my skill set. To be transparent, the “process” differs from vehicle to vehicle. Soft, medium, hard paint. Spiderwebbing, scratches, swirls, abrasions, contamination, etc. all play a factor into what I use. No need to use a bazooka to get rid of paint transfer, you know what I mean? 😊 EDIT: Matt at OG is a good dude, very knowledgeable. However, he’s not the know-all, be-all. He is not a fan of gear-driven or rotary polishers, he prefers DA’s. I prefer rotary. Which one is right? Either, to be real. For me, rotary is faster, more efficient and better performing. For Matt, DA’s check all the boxes. Don’t be afraid to offend someone to offer the best advice.

In 09 when I started to detail I bought a Porter Cable It worked OK, I grasped it but it felt like too long of a time for the expected result. Immediately contemplated a roto. Even at that time there was a concensus that foam pads were less likely to rip paint down to the metal and to keep the polisher moving. When I got the Makita rotary it was like the proponents said. Figured out the applied physics and it just felt like a more logical solution. The Porter Cable just sits on the shelf. The rotary myth much like religion has not gone away. The industry continues to be heavily leveraged on the DA

Eddy, I usually like your videos, but this was was a bit odd. You use a 5 inch backing plate machine on panels which would obviously be better tackled with a 3 inch machine to argue that the machine stalls? Also, when you say that the Griot‘s and Shine Mate are better because they stall less, why don‘t you actually show it on the same panel? From my personal and extensive experience with those machines, i.e. the Liquid Elements, I‘ll wholeheartedly have to disagree with you on your verdict.
