I can deal with the sand - but by far the best thing about going to the beach is the sound of the waves - which is wonderful, bordering on therapeutic.... when you can hear it.... When it's being completely drowned out by people blasting music and screaming to their kids about what they "Better not do!" the experience becomes deeply annoying. So I pretty much will only go to the beach in the early morning or in the Fall or Winter when they are usually empty.

@guywhousesapseudonymonyout4272

Her dad isn't Mormon, she is Jewish on both sides of her family. But the Mormons keep very detailed geneoligical records of pretty much anybody and everybody that they can get their hands on and make it accessible to anyone. The reason they do it is because they have a practice of posthumously baptizing people into LDS so they collect all this information to give everyone a chance to get into Mormon heaven. Many Jews (and I am sure other religious groups or even atheists) find this very offensive and various Jewish organizations have protested this practice, this is a sensitive topic for Jews since historically Jews were subjected to forced conversions to Christianity in Europe on pain of death, during the Crusades or at the time of the Expulsion of Spain, for instance. I, for one, as a Jew, could not care less -- what do I care if some Mormons take the names and information of my ancestors and "baptize" them into the Mormon Church of Latter Day Saints -- since I think it's a meaningless ceremony, what difference does it make to me? So her father went to the Mormon Archives to get the ancestry information that they possess, that is all.

@Olive_O_Sudden
2 жыл бұрын
The LDS church does a LOT of genealogical work, in part because their doctrine involves posthumous baptism of non-Mormons. They call it vicarious baptism, and it's an element of their proselytizing fervor because they are concerned that dead people who didn't get a chance to convert while alive won't be able to enter the Kingdom of God (or Heaven), and it's also a benefit to Mormon converts who are worried that their ancestors won't be joining them in heaven. They also used to baptize a lot more people posthumously without their descendant's consent, but their policy is that dead people can accept or reject their posthumous baptism. However, they've had to remove hundreds of thousands of names after Jewish Holocaust Survivors groups objected to this practice. My understanding is this temple activity used to be one of the few that women were permitted to participate in, as it's baptism-by-proxy, and their belief is that the sex of the proxy-person must match that of the deceased person.
