Thank you so much, Tamara. We love Lisbon too and I think we made 5 or 6 videos from the first time we were there for 11 days. There really is a lot to see and do. We thought for this one we could see what we could squeeze into a day trip as so many people do only visit for one day. It's such a vibrant place. I could just keep going back again and again. 😍 ~ Lee

@@joaorobalo9353 As it is a one off €0.50 cost for the card, it still works out less expensive than paying cash on the tram, for example. Most transport systems around the world charge for a card, only a few provide a card for free. ~ Mandy

@@FrugalTravellers the same every where you go, the card is cheaper than paying in cash to the driver, a return ticket is cheaper than a single ticket. In Portugal you pay 50 cents for the Viva Card and then you will need to top up the Viva card for tram, train, boat, etc. The travel pass is even cheaper than Viva card. There are some offers if you travel in group. At the end the travel cost is expensive. But if you are over 60's, the bus is free of charge even at UK. At UK you can get a refund for the travel card that you purchased. At Portugal there is no refund for the Viva Card which it's bad for the tourists.

Lisbon is indeed a wonderful town. I live and I work (finaly I was able to work as teacher in my hometown after many years in different places in the country) here and I find it amazing every time I walk in the streets. It was also great to see how you made this epic 10 hours walking tour in Portugal main town. Unfortunaley and after the pandemic Lisbon is very crowded and you have lots of queues to reach some spots and you have to be very patient.... If you want to skip the line to get the 28 tramline you have to get to Chiado (outside the metro station) and wait there and made all the way to Prazeres stop and then, made all the way back to Martim Moniz.. Thank you for the video. Cheers.

Hi Luís. Thanks for your comment and the good advice about how to beat the queues form tram 28. Everyone seems to want to start at Martim Moniz so the queue there is so long. It makes very good sense to start in Chiado. When we rode it the first time, it was empty because it was early in COVID times. Although they still made us get off the tram at Prazeres and take the next one back. What a wonderful journey it is and what a wonderful city too. You must be proud to call it home. 👍😊 ~ Lee

Can you text internationally and make phone calls and use data with a Portuguese SIM card? Any info you can share would be most appreciated. Thanks!

Hello Shirley. Thank you for your great question. We have one Portuguese SIM and it's from Lycamobile. We actually ordered it online and had it posted to one of our housesits, but I have seen some Lycamobile stores around. We don't make international phone calls with either our UK SIM or our Portuguese SIM. We use WhatsApp or failing that, we have money on a Skype account. That way we can have the least expensive Pay As You Go plans, and we use them mainly for data. I hope this is helpful to you. Please let us know if you have any other questions, and hopefully either we can help or one of the other viewers will be able to provide local information. My research for our trip to Lisbon and Porto revealed a hack to get to the top of Santa Justa lift, avoiding the queue and saving some cash. If you are at the top of the stairs around the lift, you need only walk less than 10 meters north (downhill) on R. do Carmo and look to your left for a shop across the street with an elevator at the back. That free elevator takes you up to the Carmo convent ruins, from which you climb a couple flights of stairs to the "bridge". It's free to walk on the bridge, and only another €1.50 if you want to climb the stairs to the platform on top of the lift.

Unfortunately, the elevator in that shop seems to be out of order, so we walked south toward the river, then west one block, then back north. The hill is more manageable on foot than one might think. The deck on the very top of the lift was closed due to rain and wind, but it the level where one exits the lift was still open for free.
