Double Dutch was the thing for the girls in North Philly during the summers. I am a 69 year old black man whose sister taught me how to turn when they didn't have someone to turn. I would jump sometimes and jumping added strength to my legs for basketball. Couldn't jump like these ladies but learned to turn for the girls. This shocked my students when l was a teacher and a principal when l went out during recess. I always played basketball with the boys but shocked the girls when l turned for them. They couldn't believe it. Those were the days.

Seeing muslima out and about playing laughing and having fun as women brought a happiness to my heart for women in Islam.

Because of their very modest dress and covered heads in a society where women are scantily dressed, I sometimes thought that they didn’t have fun exercising. For a year I joined a rec center in Dearborn, Michigan where there a large Muslim and Middle Eastern population. The center had a separate work out area for women only. The women removed their street garments and dressed like you would expect women to dress in a gym. I very much enjoyed the separation from men because in places like L A Fitness or planet Fitness men would flock to women’s water aerobics classes or Zumba classes to watch us rather than because they were there to exercise. It was creepy.

I'm a Middle Eastern Muslim woman, and yes we do have fun lol. We go to theme parks, travel, pretty much everything really (as long as it doesn't involve* dancing in public, swimming in public, alcohol, etc). In fact, I'm going to a theme park right now haha. We go to women-only parties to dance and sing together, Islam doesn't stop us from doing that! There's lots of halal (permissible) fun to do. It's no where near as strict as people seem to think :)

They kept saying “oh Miss you killed” 😂. It taught them that we Muslims can do everything even with our long Abayas.

@Ceasefirerightnow I'm going to assume that you are not from my country, America, and that you are not a native speaker of the English language. I purposely worded my previous statement the way that I did, assuming that English speaking people would understand what I intended. For non-native English speakers, I would like to make it clear that women singing and dancing in public is haraam. I hope that is clear. May Allah guide us all to what he loves.
@khaleedabdul-azeezedwards9523
2 ай бұрын
@Ceasefirerightnow Also, I suggest that you check your spelling and sentence structure before you attempt to correct someone else. Did you even proofread what you wrote? You started off your sentence saying, "I recently on insta a hijabi just being happy and dancing and people called it haram so i wouldn't be surprised if the haram police shows up any minute." Your entire sentence structure and punctuation from beginning to end is incorrect. I wouldn't have pointed this out had you not been so arrogant and ignorant. Now I want you to go back, correct your original post, and send it to me so that I can check it out to make sure that you got it right. We'll have you speaking English like a native in no time.

Gosh that brought back so many memories of jumping rope at "play time" in school 60 years ago. Lovely to see girls are still skipping. lf you could "double dutch" and when you mastered running in, it felt like a kind of magic. I remember jumping rope, underarm with the other end tied to a tree. We had so many songs and chants to jump to, to help keep rhythm too. Cinderella, dressed in yella Went upstairs to kiss her fella. By mistake she kissed a snake. How many doctors will it take? Or this one, where we did the actions. Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear, turn around, Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear, touch the ground, Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear, show your shoe, Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear, that will do! Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear, go upstairs, Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear, say your prayers, Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear, turn out the light, Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear, say goodnight! Then there was; salt, pepper, mustard vinegar where, if l remember correctly, the rope would be held higher and/or turned faster.

They had ropes, not necessarily jumprope. Funny concept though. I actually know the trick re stick becomes snake. 1. Train the snake to stay still. 2. Paint it with special paint. 3, hit the snake on the floor... tge paint 'shatters, revealimg a snake. This trick is not reversable, and the snake must be thinner then the stick, and it cannot 'suddenly grow and eat all the other snakes', and that is why it was a clear sign that Allah swt was intervening.

@@ayishaks6510 👍 hafto use our imagination. They could’ve used the ropes as a lasso too. This story is mentioned a couple more times in the Holy Quran. Surah Al Araf verse 116 n Surah Ta Ha verse 66. There’s a JumpRope trick called ‘The Mamba’ 🐍 😎

Snake and crane style of martial art. Crane jumps left to right while moving backwards as the tiger attacks. Crane uses wings like turning both jump ropes to block the claws of the tiger’s forward attack. She uses her wings to scratch the arms of the tiger quickly to escape the tigers forward or changed direction of the attack. The crane stands on one leg and jumps backwards or sidewards away from the tiger. The tiger’s front paws and legs are bleeding from the blocks with scratches from the crane. The crane continues looking like it is injured and an easy victim to keep the tiger away from its nest. So continue to practice jumping double Dutch without using the jump ropes. Arms for blocks over hand and under hand. One foot and reverse for cardio and balance. Of course jumping in and out of the double turning ropes helps with visual and body reaction for attacking or moving g backwards from an attack. Shibukan karate 1965 zukiran Okinawa.
