Hi Andrea! I have a question, I’m having a little bit of trouble with knowing where to place the verb in a German sentence…. I mean I thought I was good at this and I thought I had it down until my friend from Switzerland corrected me…. I was told the verb always has to be in the second position in German like for example: I am going to the beach with my family. Ich gehe mit meine Familie zum Strand. But in this sentence Kannst du für mich Gitarre spielst? The word to play (Spielen) which is in its conjugated form Spielen -> Spielst the Word is at the end when it’s supposed to be in the second position…. Is it even in the second position!?! I do not know. 😖😖😖😖 I was going off of German being an SOV language but when I I started learning about the grammar and how the verb is supposed to be in the second position I was just 🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯 I thought I was doing everything right by following the SOV word order 😅😅😅😅 But oh my goodness, I was in for a huge surprise but than when I hear that “The verbs always go in the second position “ it makes me think of ok… but the German and English sentence structure are not the same, this I know. German share a similarity with the Dutch sentence structure than English. 😊😊😊 I’m sorry I wrote a very long sentence but how do I overcome this little issue?? 😊😊 Vielen Dank!

Ughhh! I've got about 250 days of German and French on an app, but I'm still trying to squeeze Swiss German in--especially because of my future plans. So I appreciate these types of not so intense ways to absorb. But I thought about it recently. Even a 5 year old native has more hours than an adult 2nd language learner. With a slight advantage of being "an adult." Still, the number of hours you need just hearing a language is a lot. For now, I can separate German words I hear waaay easier than French. But Swiss German, oh boy....
