Franz Liszt (1811-1886) Piano Concerto No.1 in E-Flat Major with sheet music.
Pianist: Nattapol Tantikarn
PROGRAM NOTE:
Liszt Piano Concerto No. 1 in E flat Major.
This Liszt piano concerto is unique in several ways. The entire duration is on the shorter side, approximately 20 minutes.
The work is a continuous-composition, aside from the pause between the 1st and the 2nd movement.
The entire concerto is based on the first theme we heard. For this specific theme, some says Liszt attached the lyrics to the melody which loosely translates as “None of you understand these, ha ha!”
The concerto was premiered by Liszt as the soloist and Berlioz as the conductor. This is an interesting matchup for the program, as this concerto shares much of the thematic transformation and compositional technique with Berlioz’s Symphonie Fantastique.
There are many instances of musical duets with other instruments in the 1st movement, the nocturne-like passages in the 2nd, and definitely the fun triangle portion in the 3rd.
Recorded live at Hult Center for the Performing Arts, Eugene, Oregon, USA.
I. Allegro maestoso 0:00
II. Quasi adagio 5:30
III. Allegretto vivace - Allegro animato 10:17
