An arrangement from my favorite anime movie! "lit(var)" is the version of this theme by Kensuke Ushio, that plays at the end of Kyoto animation's "A Silent Voice" adaption, based on the manga series by the same name. This is a remastered version of the arrangement I made for the climax of my "Emotional Anime on Piano - Vol. 1" album. I want to do more arrangements from this soundtrack, so please leave a like and a comment on what you'd like to see :)
While I understand critiques about how much the movie had to cut out from the story because of the runtime, I wholeheartedly love this adaption. Kyoto Animation creates the most beautiful looking anime in the business, and this movie is absolutely stunning. Despite the cuts, I think it encapsulates and delivers the cores of the story well, and the advantage here is that it does so very effectively in those 2 hours of runtime. It's a movie about overcoming personal struggles, and about working towards a better mental health. It's devoid of fanservice or heavy anime cliches, keeping the focus on the storytelling and the characters.
Now, as you might have guessed I love the soundtrack too. Kensuke Ushio is not a known composer for me, but he delivers the perfect score to a movie concerning strong, raw emotions. It's grounded in simple melodies and soundscapes, exploring what kind of atmospheres they can create in the context of the movie. It's not something you will be grooving off to in the same way as Radwimps or Sawano, but there's gems here that, especially with having seen the movie, moves me. An intimacy that fits so well with the movie. That brings me to this track, that of which plays during the final scene. In tone with what I described earlier, the track focuses on a core melody and builds the entire song around it. Simple but beautiful! I don't want to spoil the story, but I'll leave you off with a quote from the composer, concerning this track and its naming scheme.
"The last song "lit", which was only played 2 times, means "light". This movie, which is about achieving the light, ended with this song attached."
