Hahaha watched a bunch of classic Who during the pandemic and got a bit obsessed with the cliffhangers. Third Doctor stories seem to regularly have *the same* cliffhanger, especially in Mind of Evil (Colony in space definitely does it too). The most nonsense cliffhanger is one I think from Planet of the Daleks where they walk around a corner and see an unusual patterning on the floor - shocked expression, credits! The best for me is probably the Horror of Fang Rock one where Baker says "...they're in here". I love how deadly the fighting looks in this video even though they also seem to be Nerf guns. That seems very in the spirit of Doctor Who ❤

I used to love seeing if the 3rd Doctor stories would end on Jon Pertwee pulling some kind of new expression that no one had done before or replicated since. The face when a Silurian got to him in one cliffhanger was honestly like someone being kicked in the knackers after having been told their first born child had died, whilst they also had a stroke.
@criert135

“Leela, I've made a terrible mistake… I thought I'd locked the enemy out. Instead, I've locked it in... with us….” Another one I loved was from The Ambassadors of Death where Jon Pertwee is trying to communicate with the space capsule and just keeps getting the same response over and over until he goes “Right, cut it open!” Also Inferno has a bunch of great ones. The infamously bad one with the floor is from Death to the Daleks.

The best cliffhanger to break the mould was definitely the End of Time part 1, the reveal of the Time Lords I think Classic Who had crappier cliffhangers simply due to the fact that there was only 25 minutes per episode back then and they needed some way of making sure the kids wouldn't tune out; they needed an anchor. Personal favourite is that one McCoy story where he LITERALLY hangs off the edge of the cliff

@@gabedudas2201 What my comment was referring to was that the clip was a accurate example of some of the types of cliffhangers used in Doctor Who (specifically the classic series), hence why I said 'so true'. It's not about the show having cliffhangers, it's about how this clip's similarities to some of those cliffhangers.

Not every Doctor Who cliffhanger, but I’d say this sums up the cliffhangers of Classic Who and around 90% of the cliffhangers in NuWho. The first exception that I can think of is "Time of Angels", where the cliffhanger wasn’t so much "How do they get out of this danger?", but rather "The Doctor has a plan to escape the danger! Will it work though?". Still, yeah, this summarises the vast majority of Doctor Who cliffhangers.
