Same for me. I've dabbled a little with watercolours before. I prefer Copic markers and pencils because I can control the blending, where with watercolours you have to let them be wild haha

I like the contrast between the background and the central focus. Because you used wet on dry, the colors didn't mix as much as the background which was wet on wet. Creates this almost out of focus look to the background that is very pleasing to the eye

You are great, I love your shorter videos. What I would like to see in a 8-10 mins video is "all you know" about portrait sketching. I see you are drawing an oval shape, draw a line in the middle, then two rounds for eyes. I would love to see and hear more of that easy-looking approach. Thank you so much for all you do and offer. You're a great teacher

I just managed to get a Winsor & Newton set of watercolours for like $20, as well as a couple brush pens, and I’ve been painting SO MUCH with them, the paints are an absolute dream. I’ve painted my two favourite stranger things characters so many times in the past couple days lol. I would never have had the courage to try out watercolour if i hadn’t found your channel, so thank you.

You are my inspiration, you made me want to try watercolor and gouache for the first time. I've always only used colored pencils, and never felt like I needed to branch out. But about a year ago, I discovered your videos. Your art sparked something in me, something about the way you talked about the medium, the way talked about the struggles as much as the successes, and just the overall pop of your art. It made me want to try. And I did, I went to the art store and got my first ever set of watercolor pans. I was unsure at first, I was not used to the lack of control. The colors smeared, and it looked like shit. But I was determined. From then on I started painting over all of my drawings, my hand got used to the movement of the brush, and my eyes began to notice little hue's I had never noticed beforehand. with watercolor, every stroke count's. Every stroke is permanent. I pulled up photo references and started painting with colors that would seem random and out of place to the regular human eye. I started painting white walls with mixes shades of pinks, yellows and blue's. Every color could be seen somewhere on every object. No longer was I coloring a wall white and shading with blue, no now the wall IS blue. Blue and every color of the rainbow. I find it calming, finding all the different hue's in all of the random things. I've come to have a better understanding of color theory, and how light affects objects, and especially bounce light. I spent 10+ hour per piece and there's nothing I'd rather be doing then listening to music and painting. So thank you Scott. You have truly changed my life for the better. Nothing has ever spoken to me the way watercolor has. Thank you.

When I wanted to start I didn't know if I would like it and didn't want to spend too much and waste the money I knew I wanted to try watercolor. So I got a set of 8 watercolors from Prang, one step above Crayola. And it came with a brush. And a mixed media sketch book probably 5 x 7 . Less than $20 You might want to decide on which medium you want to try first. You already have pens and pencils and regular paper. You could get a lot at the dollar store.

I grew up with colored pencils and digital art and a little bit of Indian ink, but I saw a video of Bernadette Banner (?) where she did historical costumes with watercolor, and I wanted to try it out. I fell in love with the medium pretty hard and it's been a few years now. I had been given watercolor sets of different grades so I started with that; one of them was an imported set of Gansai Tambi, which become my favorite brand and I'm so happy they are more common in Europe now. I also have a pretty big assortment of Windsor & Newton and others now. I'm also doing a lot of wash, with a bottle of India ink I got from a Chinese shop in Paris ages ago and still serves me today! I supplement it with liners and some white gel pens for highlights usually, plus a white acrylic pen, color pencils... I really love the feel of it, being a fantasy writer, it has that traditional vibe.
