Once I heard that they casted her this is exactly what I assumed. The whole idea of fighting for diversity inclusion is just that you want to be able to find the best person for the job regardless of their racial or any other kind of background. If they are pandering they're pandering to the younger generation not a whole group of people or community. She was on a hit show Grown-ish and she just keeps rising it's a great time to cast her for the role.

It's so true! Thank you for that. Halle and Chlöe are other worldly in their singing and their look...they actually look beautifully different, like mermaids. @GilbertGTV

Exactly! And because the original version of her was a story, the Disney animated version is ok to consider the original “tangible” adaptation. It can truly be considered “source” since it has been changed a bit from the original story and it’s being revamped by the same company that produced the original. As you know, people just want to feel justified in constantly being a victim and striving to have something to strive for.. so much so, that when actual victory happens for them, they have to try and stay more oppressed. It’s sad

I agree with the entire assessment with the exception of the intensity of the red hair. If the hair was as red as in the animated version, it would defeat the purpose of it being live action. I live in Mexico, and i am exceptionally disappointed on how she is received down here... like the majority of FB Disney fan pages/post from Mexicans in Mexico have been beyond racist 😑 like, they've all reacted with a laughing emoticon "😂" on all announcements/promotions of the trailer. It is sickening too that when this started trending, just memes from the same people were of like a brown/black person as the punchline that Disney is casting a lot of black people on several projects. I just... I really hope this movie is a major hit to shove it all in these people's faces.

Though she was a gorgeous woman, Elizabeth Taylor shouldn’t have been casted to play Cleopatra… Cleopatra wasn’t caucasian, but back in the days, all Hollywood actresses were white. Same goes here. The little Mermaid is a north european fairy tale. A typical spanish or italian girl shouldn’t be casted as well. By casting a black actress, Disney is committing cultural appropriation. It’s not racism, it’s defending our white culture. ( In spite of this being politically wrong, I fell in love with Halle in the trailer. The voice, the face, the innocence… she’s perfect, but it’s wrong.)

Also FUULLYYYYYU agree with you on Disney making any type of ridiculous statement and ruining this for Halle. I am all-in on inclusiveness and representation, and as a white woman I feel like I should be loud and proud about that to help bring more conversations to the table. But you're right. It should be beyond that. We as a species should be beyond the need to justify diversity. We should just do it. I keep saying 'when we get the diversity and it becomes normalized then we should always focus on talent' but you're right. It should always be based on talent and people who ignore talent should be the ones being called out.

I agree with you except on the red hair. yes it does need to be red and it is but it doesn't need to be a BRIGHT color of it. Not because of "realism" as some may say, but for me strictly from the filmmaker in me that is very visual, the darker red hair works better for the person they have casted, they already did an amazing thing 1. letting the actress keep her locks 2. finding a way to incorporate the red hair with said locks. But I think the lighting in the trailer in the particular part in the scene didn't allow us to see how "red" they made her hair so you could argue the trailer didn't showcase it as well as it could and hope in the actual movie it's a bit more red but not over the time bright red.

I do agree about the hair. But I'm giving Disney the benefit of the doubt here. We have not seen her outside of the darkness of the sea. It's possible that when she's in the sunlight her hair will be even brighter. Not the cartoon brightness. That would look unreal. But brighter is very possible.

Hey Gilbert! I love so much your reaction and all what you said to defend Halle and the movie! 😀 The Little Mermaid is my Favorite Disney movie and Ariel is my favorite Disney Princess! ❤😍 Yes! I love it so much!❤ I'm so glad to have this gorgeous first teaser of The Little Mermaid! 😍🥰 ❤Wow! She is so stunning!❤ Her face, her purple seashells bra, her voice, her hair and her stunning green/teal mermaid tail! ❤ I'm in loooooove with her! ❤💜💚 I love so much mermaids/mermen universe since I'm a child and I'm a good swimmer, I'm doing my own silicone merman tail (inspired by the tail of the mermaid Syrena from Pirates Of The Caribbean 4: On Stranger Tides) for my pleasure to swim and also for possibly modeling and acting jobs! 😀

I respect your opinion SOOOOOOOO much!!! Thank you! I was a bit disappointed at the casting because of the "woke" thing. But after watching her leaked video and some other things, I like her. Its going to have to grow on me. I am just like you, I loved the animated verison as a child and played it on repeat.

I believe the colors will change. If I remember in the cartoon the beginning the colors was muted. Then it Changed and the movie continued. I’m very excited to watch this.

If they bump up the color of her hair than they would have to do the same to the underwater plant life and creature since those are also muted in color. Too much bright fiery red would be too cartoonish. Natural red is the way to go like haile has in this trailer.
@GilbertGTV

I’d be ok with a more natural looking red. This was bronze. Not the same. This was far more brown than red.

The part where Ariel says "I say we take off and nuke the site from orbit. It's the only way to be sure" made me tear up. This is going to be the best adaptation of Ernest Hemingway's classic. So stunning...so brave.

Thank you for being so genuine and transparent with your feelings and views on this. It's refreshing, authentic, and spot on. How often are we instantly moved when watching a movie or show? As soon as she started singing, I was instantly overwhelmed with emotions but in the best way possible. You are absolutely correct in saying that the burden of the success of this movie is now on Disney. Halle was 150% the best choice and was born for this role. What she has managed to bring to the world in 90 seconds or less which is hope, excitement, and joy is nothing short of amazing!

Skin color should only matter if it's integral to that character for example black panther has to be black. Other than that skin color shouldn't matter
@GilbertGTV

Agreed! This is why I also have no issue with straight characters playing LGBT characters and vice versa. If they can act, they will tell the story. We don’t need to know who they actually sleep with off camera. That’s none of our business, and I say that as an openly gay man in Hollywood struggling to get acting work. Consistency in ethics is the key to genuine equality.

Why are people upset about a FICTIONAL creature/character? She does NOT erase the previous Little Mermaid for gods sake 🙄 No one was upset about Jason Mamoa playing Aqua Man when the original was a fair skinned Blonde🥴

For me Ariels particular shade of red hair just... doesn't work well irl. It doesnt I'm sorry. It only works in animated settings (us artists know) like look at Aqua man, Amber heard character has Ariels red hair and it just... doesn't. Its VERY hard to pull off. I will say Halles could be a little redder tho.
@GilbertGTV

I don't think BLARING red hair would work on even someone with SUPER white skin in real life, but I was willing to see how close they could get to make sure it stood out as signature, and I agree it could have been at least a little redder... but it's still forgivable because of everything else. I am 41 years old and I have never been this excited about a movie my whole life!
