Early next year i plan to expand my rural Japan cafe to include rescuing stray cats in my area to turn it into a unique Cat Cafe. Any help is very much appreciated. www.buymeacoffee.com/realruraljapan

Countryside aunties are absolutely the best. And the food they make... My goodness. Nothing can compare to homemade miso and tsukemono.

Lovely video (and channel). These lovely ladies all seem a little pickled but especially Shinobu-san when it comes to weights and measures! I started this year’s umeshu a couple of weeks ago. Being Tokyo-based I don’t often get to do these things in the camaraderie of such precious souls as your neighbours. Still watching this video fills the void somewhat. Cheers!

梅雨入り (tsuyuiri) “rainy season begins,” but the kanji is ‘plum rain’. The naming is not a coincidence as this 5th season is the time when plums ripen and ume shigoto occurs. The plum tree is important as it also signals the arrival of spring with its blossoms. My wife taught all our children how to make these ume products, making sure to pass down the recipes that her grandmother and mother taught her. It started pissing down rain last night (22nd) and is forecast to keep raining for the next 5 days. I expect we will have a few landslides on the mountain road leading to town. We’ve already had 2 this year. It’s the time of year when you always drive with a chainsaw in the truck.

How do you make that plum alcohol? I'd love to make my own liquor and with a recession coming it's way in Canada it'll definitely be needed haha!

Another great vid Steve, i made approx 1kg Ume boshi this year with home grown shiso. I have to use apricots as i cannot buy Ume. Interesting to see a variant with salt, sugar and vinegar rather than just salt. Is the vinegar rice vinegar? Will look to make this variation this summer oz time ❤

I’ve got Japanese rice vinegar on the shelves. Had a senior moment and kept on buying it when not needed, so will be good to use. Missus on the way home, so filleting salmon, dicing chicken thighs, into the nabe pot and itadakemasu - regards as always markc

My wife finished making this year’s pickled plums. I hear that Plums sold at the grocery store are rather expensive this year. Bloody monkeys have been up in my trees today. Chase them off and within 20 minutes they will be sneaking back.

A farming friend of mine started chasing them with airsoft guns. After a year, he became a military otaku😂 He has spent a small fortune on those replicas and even uniforms... But he doesn't suit up to chase the poor monkeys. Yet😅😅😅

@@wampabites the local home supply store (Komeri) probably makes a fortune selling animal deterrence devices. Electric wires, inflatable tigers, sonic and visual repellent boxes, cap guns, cage traps, bottle rockets, slingshots, kites, netting, fencing, traps, and more. I’m going to put up a scarecrow and see if it works.
