August 1978, Empire Stadium in Vancouver, Canada. An outdoor stadium, designed for football as well as perfect for track and field events. That day, the sun was hot and the day was long, filled with the music from a handful of different acts. The headliner, and last on stage, was local band Heart, still in their Led Zeppelin/Gypsy Roma stage. On stage before them was Little River Band. The sky was darkening and the stars were coming out. A warm breeze blew in from the Pacific Ocean and the lights on Grouse Mountain, across the harbour, lit the northern sky. On this night, before Heart owned the record number crowd of music fans, we were all blown away by the gorgeous four part harmonies of one of Australia's greatest Jazz Rock bands. LRB was incredible that night, and their music grasped our imaginations and primed us perfectly for what was to follow on the bill. It was still sad to see them leave the stage, but the memories of that night still linger and I can't help but find myself Reminiscing. Thank you, Angela, for bringing these memories back once more. Don't stop here with LRB, though. They've got a catalogue of great music to dive into. ♥

That song came out in 1978 - I had just retired from the USAF one year earlier. I loved this song. My son was 16 years old - he's now a grandfather! Wow. He just turned 60, so that makes me ancient - that's for sure. But I still love my Little River Band. They are old men now, also. :-) Love it.

I watched an interesting interview on this song recently. The horn outro was done by a renowned Melbourne player of the time. He made this up on the fly, and the first take was used on the record. He did other takes in the studio, but the first, instinctive one was best. This is coming from a band that really honed their tracks to perfection too.

Another gem from the era of soft rock: The Doobie Bros., Fleetwood Mac, Chicago, Kool & The Gang, Dan Fogelberg, Vanessa Williams, The Spinners, Hall & Oates,The Commodores (Lionel Richie), Al Stewart, Earth Wind & Fire -- many more besides. This is one of my favorites from The LRB -- aside from "Cool Change -- because, as you say, it is sooooo laid back and presents a story/topic that appeals to all ages. Too bad there's not an extended version because this is the kind of song I'd like to go on and on for awhile. And from that same era, listen to Italian-Canadian singer Gino Vanelli's hits Livin' Inside Myself, I Just Wanna' Stop, You Gotta' Move, Lady -- all cracked the American charts back then. Thanks, Angela! Keep these great old classic coming!
