After the heavy rain showers on June 22, 2023, the Worm River briefly transformed into a swirling drainage channel with a peak discharge of over 24 m³/s. The normal summer flow during dry periods is just slightly over 1 m³/s!
Of course, we did not go paddling under those extreme conditions. When we embarked on the Worm, the water level had dropped by about 50 cm, and the discharge from Randerath had decreased to 12 m³/s.
However, even at this reduced level, it remains a risky situation, and in the video, we will show you why.
Warning: Safety comes first! Do not attempt this if you are still very inexperienced, and always wear a life jacket because even in water as shallow as 10 cm, you can drown!
