every person who sings in this movie is so so good like holy fucking shit. both audreys, seymour, orin, even the woman in the beginning of this song. like girl you did not have to belt those lines out so masterfully i think og audrey deserves special praise though. she so clearly has a master over her voice, going from this incredibly mousy little voice so a voice that almost booms and screams such confident singing. everyone here did fantastic but audrey just impressed me so very much, her vocal range is incredible

This is the exact scene that I point to to explain how a choreographer, director and cameraman can make or break a scene. The blocking is amazing. Moranis and Greene constantly have people moving between them and the camera, to make them seem part of the scene, not just the leads. Yet, with all the criss-crossing of extras and players, neither of them ever have their facetime with the camera interfered with. And speaking of the extras, every one of them act like the camera is on them at all times. Look closely and you will see the wino clutch his drink closer to himself when someone walks by. Watch the old couple waiting to cross the street when someone else approaches. The man moves to the other side of his wife, to put himself between them. Little things like this is what make this shot and the entire movie. Frank Oz gives a class here.

I just realized something awesome about how this scene was choreographed. There is a rhythm to Skid Row. To the citizens of the downtown area as a whole and how they carry on in their daily routine. You can literally hear it in their footsteps throughout the song. Sure, this is brought to attention by showing their footsteps now and again, but that's just to reinforce that they are all stuck in that rhythm. They are stuck in Skid Row. Even Audrey is following this rhythm as she walks. She does so reluctantly, as is shown by how she carries herself, but only because she knows that is how one survives in Skid Row. You go with the rhythm, despite what is thrown at you. You're miserable, yes, but you live to see another day. But when Seymour is shown? He is walking very much out of step for the most part. Not only is he out of rhythm, but hell, he knows he doesn't really fit in at Skid Row, even if he grew up here. It's yet another reason why he wants to get out so badly. He may be meek, but he sure as hell does not want to be stuck in Skid Row and follow the same rhythm as everyone else around him.

I've seen a lot of comments about the woman who starts the song, the woman who plays the old cleaning lady who sings, "Alarm goes off at seven..." Well, that part was played by Bertice Reading. Here is a link to her biography on Wikipedia: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bertice_Reading Alas, Bertice is dead, and she died without ever getting the recognition she richly deserved. However, her voice will live on as long as people watch "Little Shop of Horrors"-- so let us be grateful for her and her contribution to this wonderful song!

i was about 15 when i first saw this movie (i'm 20 now) and i fell in love instantly. almost memorized the whole script. it was one of my special interests as an autistic person. truly an incredible and tragically underrated film.

I don’t think people appreciate this movie for the awesomeness that it is. The musical sequences are everything plus butter.

Bertice Reading with one of the arguably greatest openings to a musical number in cinematic history. Raw emotion and authenticity, and, in one take in what was her final role.

Seymour‘s part is just incredible to me. Especially the small head point as he says "ya live" as if signaling the group to say downtown

Bert ice Reading in the intro in stunning. It gives me chills and makes me tear up every time I hear it. Would have lived if her and Levi Stubbs could have did some kind of duet. I love this movie and soundtrack so much.

Favorite scene!! Every time I sweep the floor when home alone, I can't help but start singing "Poor! All my life I've always been poor..." and continue the rest of the song, haha. It's so fun.

Who is the singer at the beginning? She has the voice of an angel. Thank you James Corden for reminding me what a beautiful song this is.

The lady at the start of the song simply sang to the point where your soul began to speak to you without even being in church. Good God almighty that woman could sing. She singlehandedly woke up the dead and served them Grits and hamhocks while singing that part😅.... Go ahead child, take us home. "Alarm goes off at seven"

First saw this on a ferry returning to West Germany. Instantly hooked & still love it today. What's not to love though? That cast, the scenery, the score, brilliant story & the plant, all about as good as it gets. It still holds a 90% rating on Rotten Tomatoes but anyone who watched this & wasn't touched, needs to be checked for a pulse Tremendous stuff... ❤❤❤

I love the way Oz blocks this number but especially having Audrey and Seymour on separate sides of the same street corner. They’re singing the same song, same situations but just out of view of each other. Wonderful dramatic and musical foreshadowing. 🥰
