I was fortunate enough to meet Stevie that year or a couple of years later, when he was attending the Michigan School for the Blind. I was sixteen. My mother was the secretary to the Superintendent, Dr. Robert Thompson. Berry Gordy had appealed to Dr. T. because other schools wouldn't let Stevie go on tour because he'd miss too much school. Dr. T. found a tutor--I can't remember his name--for him so he could go on tour. The tutor was blind himself, but had taught himself tot do almost anything. The tutor taught my mother how to sail! I was so proud of having met Stevie, and loved Motown so much. Truly, they made sure Stevie would be able to pursue his God-given talent.

It hasn’t gone- they don’t give people with ACTUAL talent a chance anymore. If you look online you’ll find millions of people who play instruments, sing, arrange music etc but the entertainment industry won’t touch them bc they only want certain people, certain looks and to play certain music because it appeals to the brain dead young population of America who only care about someone’s looks.
@@jreal215 Isn't that the truth. If a musician cannot sing or play an instrument live, without electrical correction, they aren't talented.

I worked the record counter at G.C.Murphy in the Eastover shopping center in Oxon Hill Maryland and I don't know how many copies of this record went to friends. It was for real! I also remember when shotgun came on the radio when we were driving we would stop and jump out of the car and dance until it was over. Man, I love those days. When I was 18 I had an apartment on South Capitol Street now Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue and guys would sing these great harmonies that would lull me to sleep on hot summer nights. These guys had iridescent coloured Nehru suits with pant creases one could have cut a finger on. Very slick. So strange to see them get thrown into the lake. Music courses through his veins, you can see the pure joy he emits, it's this moment of incredible spontaneity, it's like he's tapping into something within himself and being a conduit for this music that was always there but never brought to life. With this performance, I feel like he already earned the genius title. The talent is just off the charts. You see how much people responded to his raw creativity and enthusiasm (part two of this live song somehow became a number one hit), nothing could be more exciting. What an incredible way to start his career.

as someone who also started makeing music at a young age this was very impressive. it takes guts to get on stage infront of people like that. (even if your blind) and playing multiple intruments at that. its always a pleasure to see how musicians started out and how they evolve over time. and yes, it is harder to physicaly play an intrument if you cant see. the dude is a badass.
