Wednesday March 25 2020 at 14.46. The 14.44 Littlehampton to London Victoria (16.29) train. This crossing was filmed in 2014 but was missed in 2011. This train goes 16 miles eastwards along the coast and then turns north for the 50 mile trip to London. There are railway tracks going north from Littlehampton to London but they are only used by trains from west of here. Right next to the left hand light board used to be a very noticeable ‘Cut engine, Cut pollution’ sign. That and the street light it was fixed to were removed sometime after May 2017 almost certainly at the request of Network Rail who have since put a gate in and created a footpath beside the tracks. NR should replace the sign. The crossing efficiency (the waiting time) is about 12% worse than before. This is about the 45th busiest crossing in England in terms of traffic and a queue of 26 cars quickly built up on the far side last time. Both red halogen lights seemed to be on together for longer in 2014 but the barriers are still out of line as before. Littlehampton station is a short walk south from here and the train goes a long way round. This year is the 100th anniversary of a brake failure on a steam train entering the station. It demolished the buffers, went through the station, crossed a road outside and reached another road before stopping. The driver and fireman had jumped off.
