Thanks to Ben and everyone who watched! Way more folks than I expected. Feel free to ask any more questions here, I'll try to keep an eye on it and reply. :)

Really late to the party, but thanks a lot for this. I have worked with modulars for maybe 25 years, and have acquired quite a few Joranalogue modules recently. I regard your work as among the most interesting in euro right now, and the Generate and Orbit etc are really brilliant designs. Regarding control - I am an electronic instruments researcher and a trained acoustic musician, so this important for me - I really look forward to your ideas in that direction. Morph is one component, I guess. And for interesting algorithmic work I really look forward to get my hands on a pair of Step. Keep up the great work!

As a Noob 2.0 (1 skiff full of sequencers 3 more full of voices and effects) Mix 3, Compare 2, and Switch 4 are exactly what I've been missing. Seems like innovative takes on the respective functionalities in a quite elegant design

Absolutely Jason, Joran manages to make otherwise basic utilities really functional and useful for a lot of systems and patches I find.

I have come to a point in my modular adventure where the new shiny modules appeal to me less than builder's creavity and innovation like Joranalogue. My desire to also support local craft will probably push me to experiment Contour 1. To begin... Thank you both for this interesting and constructive interview/conversation/exchange of ideas :)

1:40:00 they start talking about the little-explored world of 'control' .... could not be more excited to see what joranalogue does in this realm.... i want an analogue control surface to compose entire multi-part songs!

How do you ping a filter with no ping or strike input? Sorry if this is a noobish question!
@DivKid

Nothing to be sorry about, totally odd term none of us have a clue about until we ask getting into these things. Step 1 - self the resonance on the filter very close to but just under self oscillation. Step 2 - patch a short trigger into the audio input (not the CV, just normal filter input) What happens is that quick little trigger / voltage spike excites the circuit giving you a percussion "ring" of sound. instant attack and a decay. The decay time is dependent on how resonant it is and how close it is to self oscillation.

same , i was so looking forward to it, but events out of my control didn't allow :(

Also, is it possible to get an explanation of the numbers in the module names? Some are evident, others are a bit obscure to me.
@DivKid

Hi Palle, the numbers related to the number of these functions. Filter 8 has 8 outs, Receive 2 is 2 channels, the announced Delay 1 is 1 delay effect, Fold 6 is 6 stages of folding etc.

@@DivKid Thanks! For some it's more obscure, like Generate 3 - I guess it's the three wave outputs? It's seems the numbers are not really needed...until there's a module of the same name with another number :)
@DivKid

Yeah Generate 3 would be based on the 3 main waveform portions that create the waveform. Or the 3 through zero elements (amplitude / ring mod, phase and FM), probably based on the latter.

Think you should look at Shippmann"s stuff if you think there is nothing like it out there.

Hello, I know Schippman and specifically the VCF-02 ... it's fully featured but it doesn't do quite everything the Filter 8 does. The choice to play with resonance compensation (drop) is nice on there as is the 2nd harmonic for that added character. I never got to try the VD6, or whatever it was the extended low pass was, but that looked like a fun one.

Is it like a beefed up Switched resistor vcf form Barton musical circuits?
@DivKid
6 жыл бұрын
Looking at the Barton unit it doesn't seem to be. The Barton does has various outputs but I'm not seeing a connection beyond that. Joran can talk about any potential links though.

nothing to be sorry about at all, I saw the comparisons with the multiple outputs and different poles so a valid thing to ask.
