This time we will be looking at Richard Horwood’s (1757/8-1803) large-scale map of London. It attempted to show each individual building. It was also unique in that it provided house numbers as well as illustrating courts, alleys and vacant spaces. Initially, Horwood had planned for the surveying, engraving and publishing to take just two years but a combination of the scale of the work and the financial cost meant that it took almost ten years to complete.
