Violinist Luca Kevorkian performs Ysaÿe Sonata for Solo Violin in D minor “Ballade”, Op. 27 No. 3
Luca Kevorkian grew up in Rio de Janeiro - Brazil, where he began his music studies in 2004 through the social project Bem Me Quer Paquetá. At the age of 7, during a string quartet performance, he fell in love with the violin and started taking lessons from UNCSA alumna Carla Rincón.
As the concertmaster of the Paquetá Youth Orchestra, Luca has performed in concert halls in Brazil and Germany, debuting works by prominent Brazilian composers such as Edino Krieger and Edmundo Villani-Côrtes
Luca has received awards in various music competitions such as the City of Fundão International Competition in Portugal, the 15th Paulo Bosísio National String Competition, the Villa-Lobos Chamber Music Competition, the Euterpe Music Club Scholarship and the Rosen-SchaffelCompetition. Additionally, he was awarded first prize in the 2019 North Carolina Symphony Youth Concerto Competition.
Luca has taken part in many masterclasses held by artists such as Leon Spierer, Matt Haimovitz, Pinchas Zukerman and Nadja Salerno-Sonnenberg.
A recent graduate of the University of North Carolina School of the Arts under the tutelage of Professor Kevin Lawrence, Luca has served as the school’s Symphony Orchestra concertmaster under the batons of Robert Franz and Michael Butterman. In the spring of 2022, he was a participant of UNCSA’s Chamber Music Festival, playing alongside internationally acclaimed violist Paul Neubauer.
