Chip act is to help leveling playing field. When when china Taiwan Korea government each do 150billion in subsidies that is extra 450 billion$ in backing our chip industry has to compete against. How is our chip industry supposed to realistically compete against $450 billion in subsidies fairly. 76 billion is better than nothing but not enough. @anthonydelfino6171
2 жыл бұрын
The debt ceiling arguments are all political theater. Congress passes the budget that, by law, the executive branch must follow. They also set the tax rates to provide funding for those programs they’ve chosen to fund. The difference must, again by law, be made up by the executive taking out loans. They can not just choose to spend less once the budget passes, they literally are bound by law to take on loans. But unlike other countries, when the legislature passes a tax rate that does not meet the budget to fund all spending, it’s not implied that they have approved the required borrowing to fund the budget. In the US, because they don’t tax high enough to cover the budget, and because they don’t approve of the executive borrowing above a certain amount to fund the budget, then they get to pass on blame and hold the government hostage while they negotiate raising the debt ceiling. CGP Grey has a really great video explaining this in more detail.

A corporation buying back their own stock should be illegal. The purpose of going public and selling stock used to be in order for the corporation to invest back in the corporation for things such as capital equipment, R&D, etc. All that buying back stock does is artificially inflate the stock price and stock price increases mean higher bonuses and higher salaries for the CEO and other executives. Stock buy-backs should be penalized by taxing the corporation at 100% or more of the value they pay for purchasing back their own stock.

Bernie presents the state is not too dangerous to tolerate, despite Professor Robert Higgs. No man has seen Justice in the stinking SCOTUS nation since too big to fail. We kill our war protesters at Kent State.

"Full abolition of intellectual property laws" would be very bad. We all suffer another's profits to encourage their innovation. Yes, too much profit is poison. Also money equals power, and power is comparative. Look at what Amazon does. They see a product that sells well, they imitate it, they push out the original producer. They use their power. We need stronger intellectual property laws (power of The State) for [period of time] after an innovation to protect the incentive, and we need "full abolition of intellectual property laws" after [longer period of time from the initial innovation] to discourage passive rent-seeking behavior. With some shades of grey between depending on industry. The State is a collective bargaining tool. Think of it that way. Participate in politics, vote whenever you can, and support majority rule democracy. Unionize out from under the minority-rule majority-shareholders, vote local/state/federal over the top of them.

@@aristizle8797 “Full abolition of intellectual property laws” would be very good. You make false propositions about how they function here. You need to read up on the subject. It’s irresponsible to make public conclusions beforehand. IP laws only do one thing, provide monopolies. That’s horrible.

I think the cheap labor market has backfired on America. We've had corporations seek cheaper labor in other countries instead of investing in America. In doing so, other countries have profited in American innovation. I think it's time to end it. It's time to invest in America but I doubt my words will be heard. Greed is a strong driving force and corporations believe profits over country.

I would like to be point out that the most powerful chips running our devices are NOT coming from China, but from Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC). Taiwan. China's own semiconductors are generations behind TSMC as are ours because we shipped out the risky parts of our manufacturing base out of the USA starting in the 80's. Intel itself cannot match TSMC's output in terms of feature size. Interestingly enough, our politicians are not allowed to say "Taiwan" so as not to enrage China; but as China considers Taiwan NOT an independent country, but somehow a lost part of themselves which they hope to regain, the bill Bernie's colleagues are trying to pass makes it sound like they are standing up against China which is not the case. Bernie does say Asia several times, but even he, I suspect is prohibited from uttering the word "Tiawan" in the halls of congress without savage repercussions. Keep up the good fight Bernie!!

If Obama had bailed out homeowners in 2009 instead of banks, we wouldn’t be facing the extreme housing crisis we’re facing now. It’s insane. Capitalists won’t rest until you live in houses they own, pay subscriptions for energy they sell, shop at stores they scale to cost just more than you can afford. And when you get sick and cannot work, you’re dead.

What Obama did more than 10 years ago has Nothing to do with today's housing market bubble. That was all thanks to the "Big Orange Buffoon". He created a rift in our society we haven't seen since the Civil War when he denied Covid-19. Then came the world-wide lock-downs and ALL production was slowed. Then he did what every GQP stands against, he gave money to people. So now with a majority of the population stuck in one form of quarantine or another, people decided they wanted to move and in order to guarantee they get the house they want, they pay 4x the market value. Now all of a sudden, property values are up, 1st time job seekers (with absolutely NO sills) won't work for less than $18/hr. That's where the inflation is coming from, that's why there's this "supposed" housing crisis. Oh and the price of gas? Remember when our "Furious Tweeter" was in charge and the price of gas was nearing $0 because demand fell below supply, so they "Big Oil" cut supply? Now they (Big Oil) wants to keep their profits up now that the demand is higher than the supply. In short, we're just now facing all the problems "The Big Orange Drumpf" created in his 1 and Only term.
