Outstanding interview. What an amazing and articulate man he is. He doesn’t like to call himself an artist (although he admits to ‘artiste’) but that is what he is. He should write a book on perfume, He could probably dictate it straight to tape.

Not only Rodrigo is an excellent perfumer, one of my top three in the world in fact, I love most of his perfumes, but he is a cute guy and could be an excellent stand up actor. It, s great for him to become the vice president of a great company like Givaudan! Congratulations! And you are a very good host!

Hi Persolaise. Just watched this interview with Carlos. I'm so moved by his philosophical comments on Mexican Culture, the complexities of the Craft of Perfumery & most of all about the conversation between him & his "Prof. of Physics' father. Wow. That's the way to vindicate us, the perfume geeks. Also, to tone down those decriers of our quest as frivolous. You would definitely have laughed if you had seen my struggle to decode his rapid fire Mexican accent, bless the man. During the game I noted the phonetics, "Oh So Bash" & was excited to realise this was Eau Sauvage, an impression of chevrefuille or honeysuckle. Thanks so much, Dariush.

What an incredible interview! Mr.Flores-Roux is such a pleasure to listen to. I loved when he shared the conversation he had with his father, perfumers covering up the smell of decay is such a romanticized and beautiful way to describe the vocation! However, would we rather smell decay, or a certain pineapple bergamot bomb…?

Thank you so much for this great interview! I love the authenticity and the spontaneous energy of Rodrigo Flores-Roux! Also, loved the perfume history anecdotes and the very interesting raw material/perfume associations he made! As for the very important role of a perfumer in our society: for me, simply put, perfume is not there to cover decay but to bring joy and beauty in our life, if well made and well chosen, perfume is a way of expressing our soul. And that’s the most important thing! Perfume helps us incarnate and express ourselves in a very positive and joyful way. :-) That being said, perfume through history of mankind, always had very important roles: medicine and healing, love and seduction, communication with the gods… What can be more vital than that? ;-) Perfume is, simply put, a very beautiful way to join the spiritual and the material, sensual aspects of our lives.

Wow, a perfumer envoked the law of entropy in describing the roll of perfumery in society. That's pretty deep. The human importance of covering up what scares us: the natural man and inevitable decay as it relates to odor. Hmmmm. Anyway, I'm a fan of Varvatos frags too. The original, with its prominent chewy sweet date note and sweet spices is my favorite, then the fun artistry of the Dark Rebel/DRR pair. I also have the 2010 reimagined Houbigant Fougere Royale, which when I smell it does seem to me to be the best representation of a true fougere available today. I only wish that project produced two fragrances: an exact reproduction of the 1882 original (given current restrictions, materials, techniques), and the current modernized interpretation. I value history and fidelity to it highly.

There is no specific point, because everything depends on the ingredients in the perfume and how it's been stored. Thanks for watching.
