Some quick celphone video of my 3" scale MEG Steam "Wendy" 0-4-0 pounding up the grades at the Portola Valley & Alpine Railroad with a full train about 2,000 lbs. Engine is coal fired and I just rebuilt the front axle assembly with roller bearings. It is being fired with Australian char, a highly refined coke product that leaves almost no ashes. The cylinder bore is 2.5" with 7" diameter drivers.
The MEG (Montreal Engineering Group) Wendy was designed by Dougal Hubner and is similar to the Sweet William found in the UK. It uses a simple Hackworth valve gear and marine boiler, and as you can see in the video can really get up and go with power to spare. Mine is highly modified to look like a freelance American saddle tank engine in logging operation.
MEG Steam is no longer in business but you can get plans and castings for the Sweet William from Black Gates Engineering in the UK which will get you about the same thing.
