The Yamakasa festival is back in full swing! The excitement begins precisely at 4:59 am on July 15th when thousands of men from seven different districts run through the streets, bearing one-ton decorative floats. But the festival offers more than just this spectacle. Check out our freshly updated guide on the Fukuoka Now website for more details. www.fukuoka-now.com/en/yamakasa/
In the first of our series of live streams about the Yamakasa festival, we will take a closer look at several kazariyama - the decorative floats that play a central role in the event. Historically, these floats were paraded around the city, each vying to be the most stunning. They are crafted every year by skilled artisans who choose a specific theme for both the front and the back of the float, often centered around historical figures or themes considered to bring good luck. This year, 13 stunning Yamakasa floats will be displayed around the city. You can find a comprehensive guide to all the kazariyama floats on the Fukuoka Now website as well. www.fukuoka-now.com/en/yamaka...
