Living with PBC® documents the stories of those living with the progressive autoimmune liver disease primary biliary cholangitis (PBC). However, PBC not only affects the people living with the condition, it also takes a toll on their families. Inspired by her mother’s journey with PBC, photographer Emily Blincoe set out to document the experiences of those affected by PBC. In her collection, LiveHer, she captures the stories of 3 women.
Emily’s mother Debbie was diagnosed with stage 3 PBC in 2011. At first Debbie and her family were concerned about her diagnosis. However, today she lives a full life while managing her PBC. She enjoys collecting ladybug memorabilia, especially for her garden.
Brandi has a family history of PBC and was diagnosed in 2016 at the age of 34. Most people with PBC are not diagnosed that young, so Brandi has the rare opportunity to make adjustments to her lifestyle to see what works best for her.
Bel has been diagnosed with late-stage PBC and has had to overcome a lot of obstacles associated with her condition. Despite her struggles, Bel still has a passion for life that’s uplifting.
These photographs showcase what connects and differentiates these women and their unique journeys with PBC.
