This thing is everything Korg Volca wishes it was. I am absolutely floored with this rad thing, and immediately ordered one directly from Sonicware. Amazing. I would LOVE to see Sonicware make more of these "LIVENS"... like a polysynth (non-8-bit)... with the same functions/layout... a drum machine / sample player, with the same functions/layout... man. This is WAY better than a Volca.
@SR-ih1be
2 жыл бұрын
Maybe it's better than a single Volca, or maybe not. I have all the Volcas, and they are great when daisy chained and synced, running into separate channels into a mixing board, with aux effects. They create a complete and diverse modular performance environment that I challenge anything to rival. In terms of workflow and process, Volcas are more limited, but they are also more focused, and in many unique ways depending on the instrument. The form factor and UI is also (from what I've seen) a bit more desirable on the Volca side. Based on sound alone, KZitem will debate you on how the songwriting plays out over time, but all I can say at the moment is that I haven't heard a single piece of incredible music made on one of these, yet. The quality and diversity of music made on Volcas has had years to become what it is, and time will tell if these can do the same.

They're different machines. I got my 8bit warps this week and I'm finding it less accessible than my volca keys and volca drum although it has more features. It's new to me so I'm sure my opinion will change over time.

I've always been highly interested in creating synth music since I was young, specifically using 8- & 16-bit sounds from video games; gaming is my ultimate passion :) Until now, I didn't know there was such a device that both professionals AND casuals can use in such a wonderful and creative way. If I had a LIVEN, I could explore my love of old-school gaming music AND cross off an item on my bucket list all at the same time. Thanks for bringing the device to my attention, Woochia!

Super in-depth review for a great little synth. It would surely add a retrogame boost to my tiny gear set-up. The perfect companions might be my fabulous midi tracker Yamaha QY70 and its electro-dreamy '90 sounds and the quirky Yamaha SU10 lazy sampler, and the most farty Bontempi keyboard (now in pharmaceutical coma, I hope I can reLIVEN it ... maybe it could be replaced by the Bastl Kastle or some TE POs...). This thing sounds so cool. I'd love to win a LIVEN and add that distinctive 8-bit sound to my small setup. That sound is full of nostalgia but I believe it's really musical and has a place next to all the modern sounds in any electronic genre. I really like the LIVEN, the only downside I found immediately after testing it is the lack of an Undo, so you have to be very careful in saving your sounds to memory if you like them. Kudos to you :D

I would be happy to win LIVEN. Early in their careers, Darkstar made stunning electronic music at the intersection of post-dubstep and chiptune. You may have heard "Aidy's Girl Is A Computer" . Very beautiful. Kode9 described it “It's like hearing circuitry crying.” . But, unfortunately, they began to develop further in a different direction. I want to do something like this. LIVEN sounds like it was made for that.

09:47 just watched this video and found that you also found the aliasing noise to be very subtle, however...just sitting with the device next to me, as it would figure, this becomes pronounced in the high frequency region. I want to reboot myself with LIVEN. Trying to save myself because I feel stuck, lost that original joy of creativity that once prompted me to start making music. I think it's all about overload. There are too many possibilities, too many technical issues in working on sound. And in general, somehow a lot of things are happening. Maybe I should become a minimalist. Change my usual approach to creating music. And LIVEN could be such a core for the reboot. Its form factor suits me very much because it is more convenient for me to use compact hardware. And I really like the character of its sound. I have a feeling that thanks to LIVEN I can feel like a child again. And this would be very good for creativity. It will be great to jam with it, find some good ideas, record it, and use it as a basis. Art should not be painful.
