My father (retired 1993) worked in the office building with the white framed windows in the bottom centre of the picture at 5:53, his job title was Dock Gateman. When I was still at school I sometimes took the bus to Dacre Street and walked through the dock to the dock office crossing a bridge that went down into the water and under the dock wall to let ships pass. I think it was where the white building to the right is. The dock police on the gate were told I was coming so let me through. I walked unescorted through the docks. I can't imagine that would be allowed now. Years later I met the civil engineer who was responsible for the design and installation of the bridge, he was the vicar of the village where I lived.
