A review from an amazon HOMICHEF Saucepans: Pleasantly surprised at the beauty and solidity of the cookware in this set! I recently changed from gas cooking to induction cooktops. I needed a new set of cookware that is induction compatible. I decided that, as long as I was buying new stuff, I would look for a “nickel free” solution. Hence, I found HomiChef. They are the only company I found that makes special stainless steel, nickel free. To my knowledge, stainless steel cookware is usually made with three metals: iron, chromium, and nickel. Most cookware is 18/10 stainless, or 18/8 stainless, which means the metal contains 10% nickel and 8% nickel, respectively. Many people have some allergies to nickel, and I suspect some nickel will leak into your food from cookware (My experience is that coffee stored in stainless steel thermoses tastes pretty terrible after a relatively short period of time.) HomiChef cookware is made with 21/0 and 18/0 stainless steel, no nickel. This set of stainless cookware is absolutely beautiful! It does require more attention and care than 18/10 and 18/8 stainless. The nickel makes the stainless steel harder. Hence, nickel free stainless will scratch more easily than standard stainless cookware. Pay attention to the instructions that HomiChef provides on how to care for your new cookware. For my impatient self, I didn’t read all the instructions first, so I stacked my new frying pans one on top of the other. I also used my old sponge (I thought it was scratch free, but I wasn’t sure). As a result, I have some very shallow scratches (cosmetically not pleasing) on my cookware . These scratches are very minor and do not affect my cooking at all. They are just annoying, and were completely avoidable. I bought myself some wooden cooking utensils, a new sponge, and a better way to store my new cookware. I do not stack my pans on top of each other directly. Instead, I use reusable grocery bags, which are made of cloth or a recycled version of plastic that feels like cloth. I tried using small towels between the frying pans, but I am impulsive and impatient sometimes, and I found that I would yank out the frying pan that was on the bottom, without being careful (yes, another cosmetic scratch). So I use bags. Way easier. Also, we are remodeling our house, and I don’t have much kitchen space. I found a unique way to store the HomiChef set: I stack the cookware in the reusable grocery bags inside a plastic storage bin. I included pictures, in case someone is in the same small space situation as me. I also included a picture of the plastic scrubber sponge that I use to clean the cookware. I can use that sponge to clean stuff that is really stuck on the bottom of the pan. I soak the pan with some hot water and dish soap for a few minutes. Then scrub the pan. I may only get about half the stuck food off, but I just rinse out the pan and repeat the process. I have found that cleaning stuck food in stages is more effective and way less frustrating. I have also included a pic of a page from HomiChef’s pamphlet that came with the cookware. You can see by the detail that HomiChef believes in their products, and really wants its customers to have a positive experience with their cookware. Lastly, but extremely important, is HomiChef customer service. This cookware set comes with a six year warranty, and from my experience thus far with HomiChef, I have no doubts that they will honor that warranty. Customer service responds quickly, and always respectfully, to all questions and concerns, and also offers other advice that you didn’t think to ask, but turns out to be very helpful!!! I hope this review is helpful!
