Side note: the singer for Living Colour, Corey Glover, started his show business career trying to be an actor, and got cast in “Platoon•” according to a documentary on the film, he used to sing and play guitar with cast mate Johnny Depp at the hotel the cast stayed at to let everyone blow off steam.

This band has one of the best guitar solos of all time. Severely underrated! I feel like they opened the door for people like Howard Jones (Killswitch Engage/Light The Torch/Sion), Lajon Witherspoon (Sevendust), and Kadeem France (Loathe). Fucking amazing band.

When the drums kick back in and the rest of the band joins in it feels almost oppressive, absolutely dig it. Like a wall of sound, almost as if it was the masses rallying around the cult of personality. Plus the lyrics that come with it; "You gave me fortune, you gave me fame, you gave me power in your God's name!" Like the first half of the speaker is warning the listener, but after the solo the cult has taken over

The lyrics are outstanding, and applicable today. “I exploit you, still you love me. . . “ I used this song to teach the concept of the cult of personality in high school world history classes in 1989-1991. Song made the point better than the textbook could. Students were amazed that I owned the album and saw them in concert.

Vernon Reid is an amazing guitar player. I remember reading an interview with him in one of my guitar magazines like 25 or 30 years ago. I then bought his solo album "Mistaken Identity". This came out when I was in high school. I lived in the suburbs. My friends and I were into Metallica and Ozzy at the time. When this song hit MTV, it was a banger and we listened to it all the time. Vernon Reid is one of the greatest guitar players imo, and Corey Glover is a powerful singer.
