Why don’t you take fifty pounds and buy a bunch of stuff and see how long you can go without going back to the grocery store? You’ll probably surprise yourself. Do a use it up pantry challenge and a really cheap budget shop at the same time. 😀

much easier to do bulk buy if you have sufficient storage. if you did £50 for the month, you could throw in some other really nice staples like porridge oats which bulk out a meal(throw in some spices and flour for a nice savoury chicken bit batter/coating) and really don't cost much at all. lidl waste not £1.50 deals produce deals are a steal too if you can get them.

This would actually be useful for people to follow your grocery shop and try to stretch their own grocery shop. Most people don’t shop with the idea of a quid a day in mind but have set grocery budgets. You could do a series with different budgets, to appeal to people on a variety of budgets.

I live on less than a pound a day, but I get a lot more for my £30 a month than £7 a week. I prepare my meals in portions for 4, then either freeze the meals for later in the month, or eat that meal consecutively during the week. I always make a large pot of soup, it is used primarily for snacking though. I also bake biscuits, or fairy cakes. I make things like pancakes, flapjacks, waffles granola, cereal bars or porridge for my breakfasts. So my fresh vegetables last I prep them all on the same day they’re bought then freeze them. It’s doable with a budget of 30£ a month, have variety and still enjoy fruit and vegetables

If you got all of that for £1 a day, imagine how much you could have got for £1 a meal (£3 a day on a budget). That puts a lot into perspective! I've been spending more and more each week on my weekly shop, which makes me wonder how much I'd save incorporating a few cheaper meals into the mix. Great video as usual!😊

Couple of ideas that could've added a bit more taste to things. Adding some sliced up hot dog sausage to the carbonara. You could've also used a slice of that bread, bit of seasoning and oil and made croutons in your air fyer to add some texture into your soup.

I added up the nutritional info for the whole week. I included the shop, the vegan cheese, 4 toms and the muffin. I didn't take in to account the oil, spring onions and herbs. I made it 8600 calories for the week, 59% of the calories from carbs, 17% from protein and 24% from fat. That's only about 1230 calories per day and very carb biased. That is not a sustainable diet. Too few calories, not enough protein and very low on vitamins/minerals. You did well to cope on that few calories for a week! Foraging in the UK in October can be challenging. You always have nettles (use as you would use spinach) and burdock/dandelion roots (tasty carbs), you might get lucky and fine late apples/crab apples, rose hips are out and a good source of vitamin C, sloes/plums/bullace, beech nuts, hazelnuts, walnuts and chestnuts. Plus several varieties of mushroom if you know what you are doing. Obviously only available if they are where you can forage.

I always love these types of series. If I may make some suggestions 1)soy mince is usually dirt cheap and even a small box goes a long way (the dried stuff on the shelf, not the frozen stuff) 2) the bread ends, while not much, can make croutons for a light snack 3) if you ever allow yourself more from your spice cabinet, some cinnamon sugar on toast can satisfy your sweet tooth

Two things I do are 1/ Stocks. If you have anything on the bone, chops, chicken etc - after you finish boil up the bones and save the stock in portions in the freezer in containers or food bags - adds flavour to sauces and gravy. 2 / Tomato sauces. Only thing you need is a stick blender. Tins of the cheapest value chopped tomato. Diced onion, mushrooms, garlic, celery, carrot, any left over lettuce you have in fact any vegetable matter boil up in a big pan ( sometimes two ) add dried herbs, salt, pepper and half a teaspoon of sugar. Allow to cool, whizz up with a blender and put in sandwich bags and freeze. Great for pasta also a base for soups and costs little and saves you wasting stuff.

Macaroni and Cheese casserole. Start with one box of Kraft dinner or Macaroni and cheese (as we know it in the States). Make your cheese sauce in the pot while the pasta drains, then gently stir the pasta back into the sauce in the pan. You will find making it this way increases the quality of the Kraft dinner a great deal. In a separate pan while the pasta water is coming to a boil, add about 1/4 large onion and 1/2 lb of Mince (or Ground Beef here in the U.S.). fry until onions are translucent and the mince is brown, season with salt and pepper. It is better in my opinion, to keep this one simple; add to the Kraft dinner when both are done, fold in gently. You can fancy it up with extra cheese, or add to a casserole dish and top with breadcrumbs, dot a bit of butter on top and bake in a moderate oven until breadcrumbs are golden. Adjust up or down as needed to feed your family. You can get a couple good sized meals from the original proportions. This dish has been a staple when times were tough in my family for many years... It's delicious and filling.

I remember when I was very poor in the early 90's having to eat as cheap as I could. Luckily, there was a bizarre "baked bean war" happening in the supermarkets and even loaves of bread were ridiculously cheap too and I remember I managed to live on £1 for the week - oats for breakfast, fresh air sandwiches (aka plain bread) for lunch, and beans on toast for dinner - every day for the week. Really terrible for me, I'm sure, but it was cheap!

Honestly speaking I can feed myself on 10 quid a week easily , seven maybe harder but, make one stew, one soup , those can be changed by adding say tomato in one day then the next curry, it's about cooking in bulk, also I add red lentals and some kind of bean to make it more filling, I can make bread, and I am a good cook , keep a well stocked house , so if I have too, I can live a good few days on just my stock , but I do not often do either

Monsieur Plus Sauvage (aka Wilder), When one has fresh veg, wash it throroughly, save the peels (shavings), cores, i even use the brown outside of the onions. (I finally got to the part in the video where you explain you do all this, Bravo) i also save the pasta water (it's starch), the water from boiling potatoes (more starch), any liquid from tinned (canned) veg. And don't forget chicken bones (any meat bones) and any fat you may take off the top of the stock for frying. Wine, Beer also flavor stock. The Carrot soup looked wonderful. In Mexico we fry potato skins. they're yummy Green (unripe) tomatoes can be used in place of mexican tomatillos, for the classic green sauce, and in the USA makes fried green tomatoes (make crumbs from the bread). The Sicilians use bread crumbs fried in oil (here olive oil helps) as a substitute for parmesean cheese. mashed beans or peas would make an interesting sandwich spread (with a bit of the vegan cheese and perhaps some tomato blended up.) October UK foraging, mushrooms (there are mushroom identification aps), Apples, I have a fav dish for almost every cuisine on the planet. But my number ONE is from India Called Cchole. Chickpeas, tomato, chilies, onions, garlic ginger, general curry spices and garam masala to finish. you can cook some paneer (farmer's cheese) near the end in cubes, Eat with a buttery Indian bread And Raja's your uncle!
