Yeah, it is all BS that keeps people trapped, just slaves to a system that they created, the rich that is. Instead of whippings and people running away give them just enough to survive and trap them in debt. Then make them fight amongst each other over how much one gets compared to the other, instead of fighting the ones who get everything. That will happen again history proves that. Thanks for comment

Anyone considering living off-grid (esp in woodland) should read Tom Barron's book "The New Woodsman"; also Gill Barron's book on Yurts both published by Eggerslack Press. These are people who've lived off-grid for many years and therefore have some invaluable insights.

Great videos mate. You must be in my neck of the woods judging by the accent. I'm looking to take my young family off grid as well and will send your informative videos to my wife to help her confidence. Nice chat Craig. Still looking for some land over here in Cumbria. It will happen, but till then I’m bloody busy with my polytunnel and garden which is going crazy right now, as I’m harvesting and sowing new crops. My micro greens business is just starting out, growing my first crops there and got 2 restaurants and a health store already signed up for it.

If you have an established business it may even help you in finding land you can rent with the potential to purchase later on..? Anway glad to see you are getting on with it well done

Hi Craig, I have a static that I have to move at the end of the lease in 2025. Is this what I should do?! Buy some land - it doesn't matter how little really - bung some bees on it and then come and go a bit. Add the static and continue to come and go a bit. Gauge the local reaction and then move in full time.
@thesmallfarmerlife
Жыл бұрын
You just have to go for it, the more you make it look like a farm and you're trying to start a rural business the better chance you have to stay. You could grow speciality mushrooms, and micro greens you don't need that much land really to start a small farming enterprise. i have seen people,e do it on less than half acre site

At least you know what it's like and I think that would be best for most people to sample life in a caravan before making the jump to buying land and sticking one on there. Which to be fair will bring the local planners and have locals up in arms. I personally would go down the route of building a cabin, much easier to hide and blend in. The only reason I have static is the neighbours are cool with it and they don't mind me here. Well I was here before all of them so what could they do lol

But still have a good customer base and could have sold hundreds of hens and god knows how many fertile eggs this year.

I really want to buy some woodland or land . The trouble is, especially woodland, the price has shot up so much over the last few years. I live on a narrowboat on a private mooring, which the farmer won't sell to me. I've just recently bought a caravan, which I'll probably use once I finally get the piece of land I want. How many acres would you recommend Craig? And could I just buy farmland and put a caravan on it? Thanks.
@thesmallfarmerlife
Жыл бұрын
Just a couple of acres is more than enough for a small farm the more land you hve the more care you are gonna have to put into it and time. Everyone I've seen who is successful in permaculture, growing microgreens ect all started small like a quarter acre and if they never they wished they had. See a stone pick it up see a weed pick it out sort of thing. Better care can be given to small areas than to large area. But I would buy a couple acres just to have the land to expand whatever you will be doing. You cannot just put a caravan on agricultural land but there are ways around it and you will need a plan to follow if you want to be successful

How do you get electric to your caravan? Is it mains or a generator or soler ect?
@thesmallfarmerlife

Mains first thing I did when I got the land was install electricity as the guy who sold me the land owned the house which drive I had to dig up to install it, so I knew he would sell the house and thought. Yep, I need to get this done now or I may not be able to or allowed to by new owners. I was right really as his daughter bought the house and said and I quote "It was a good job you got that electric in when my dad owned the house" Those exact words...!

Ideally mains is the best was just sometimes it's not possible. So when you bought the land you told the owner of the land that you were going to live on it? Would you say that this is probably be the best thing to do?
