Unfortunately this city is extremely dangerous I am finding. I have been victim of two major crimes in less than 9 months. Felony assault by a stranger & my car broken into & credit cards stolen & used. It’s by far been the most unsafe city I have lived. These all occurred off 12 mile at the library & community center of all places.

Yes please more young couples move in and update the homes or build up, a lot of the homes that go up for sale is because the owners lived there forever and passed away or moved to Florida for retirement. Great area, not all congested like Novi or Royal Oak.

I've lived in 2 countries and 5 diff cities. My take on FH: city living with nice big property sizes and lots of nature mixed in which makes for a pleasant peaceful experience. Extremely diverse(well sort of it's mostly Jewish, Middle Eastern, Indian, Asian and African American with a much smaller European and conservative demographic than most other cities). Not bad or good just different than you'll find in other areas. The population also is much older, the "younger" people if you can find any are in their late 30's and up so theres little to none fun hip places to shop or things to do. The roads and public services seem better maintained and kept up than other areas which is nice. The impression I've got is that the vast majority or the population leans left politically and kinda hard left, I worry my kids may not get a balanced view in school or with friends. All the stores shutdown early like 9:00 which was a change for me but I adjusted after a while. Attractive looking people are very under represented in the area I'm not sure why but it's rare to see anyone over a 4 or a 5/10(myself included). Low crime? Not in my experience. I've had neighbors on both sides of me have their $300k houses raided by SWAT for drugs, I've had drug dealers show up at my house looking for a neighbor kid thinking he was in my house and had to call the police. The gas station a mile away had a car drive up and shoot up a crowd of young kids recently. There’s constantly people having items stolen from their porches vehicles and garages. There is a large concentration of crime in northern FH and SE West Bloomfield most likely due to M-10 leading right up from Detroit to that area and giving a fast getaway for criminals. On top of that my house payment went up $150 last year and another $150 this year due to property taxes, that's a $300 A MONTH jump!! Although I do like the uniquely quiet living and large lots, I'm not sure I'll stay in this area.

How are housing prices a pro and a con? Also lack of downtown is a weird complaint since Farmington hills almost wraps around Farmington, essentially same city. Also the weather is a dumb con because it’s not like you’re comparing Farmington to Miami. Any city you are thinking about living in metro Detroit will have same weather
@PaulWolfert
4 жыл бұрын
Housing prices are both a pro and con depending on where someone is financially. It's "cheaper" compared to areas like Novi but more expensive than a lot of the state. I agree with you about the downtown but there are plenty of people (especially those who live further North) who say Farmington Hills needs a downtown of its own. The weather is definitely a stretch. Not a lot of bad things I can say about the city 🤷♂️

Big Con about Farmington Hills.They are very ANTI DOG. You are not allowed to take a dog on a leash in any of the public parks in Farmington Hills. Farmington Hills has some big, beautiful nature parks but don't even think about it. You have to go to the City of Farmington Shiawasee Park or the city of Livonia parks to walk your dog in a park. Farmington Hills does have a dog park that you can take your dog to. Not much of a park it's and old baseball diamond with 1 tree. It also cost $30 dollars a year to go there. I stopped going because my dog was bitten every time we went there. If you are a dog lover and move to Farmington Hills be aware of their dog ban. I would like to mention that it has been like this for quite awhile so none of the present city council members are responsible for it, although it would be nice if they would consider a change.
