I went on a cruise six months ago, and decided to spend 4 nights in pr after the cruise, I loved the island, and I am thinking about moving there, I worked in IT for a few years doing help desk and desk side support, I know jobs there aren't the highest paying jobs, my question is, would you rather buy a place or rent ? What kind of jobs can you get ( I know it's highly competitive in the tourism industry)?
@JenThereDoneThat

@@hicham.o732 Look for remote IT jobs, or IT support position with one of the big pharmaceutical companies. They will pay much higher wages than most jobs on the island. Jen, my parents arrived to Puerto Rico, from Cuba, in 1960. They loved this Island so much that their second and third children were born here. I am the third child and I am 57 years old. They had to work very hard to give us the best education. Unfortunately they passed away...my Dad in 2014 and my Mom in 2015. They told us to please never take them to live in Miami even if they were old, because they felt their heart’s home was this beautiful Island a Puerto Rico 🇵🇷. I was raised here, I got my BBA degree here. I worked for Advertising Agencies in PRico, NYC, Texas and Miami...and I returned in 2015. I don’t have any family here as all have moved to Florida...and I feel that I pertain to this land. I am very happy that your experience has been a good one. Regards.

Thank you for such good opinion of our Island. I am very proud of living here and my heritage. From being born in N.Y. With working parents who returned after making funds for the goal of buying a property. This was the classic american dream. Work, study and grow professionally to capitalize back in the Island. Love my people. We are such a mix of cultures which makes us so rich in knowledge and hospitality. For the mosquitoes use many essential oils including citronella in water and just sprinkle everywhere as you would fertilizer. Rich aroma of lavender and many other you can spray in and out the house. You’l see the difference. Just discovered I could do the same to get out of my surrounding all the street cats and the neighbors’ ones visiting my chihuahua but instead ... using straight vinegar. Worked fine and it is natural, not toxic for them. Hope you continue enjoying living here. Make the most of each day. Hope for good health also with the virus issue.

Hello, It is good that you can live on the island that I was born in, but the The system forced me to move to Texas, because as you mentioned the lack of employment and opportunities for locals is minimal, so with my Master's degree and years of experience I left.The Government created insentives and opportunities for people like you, and I am glad, but it does not help the local, the small and medium businesses do not have any benefits and professionals like me have I have to leave the country. Fortunately I can travel every Christmas to PR, except the last ones due to Covid19. So I'm happy and that you continue to prosper on my island. Thank you for so nice words about Puerto Rico

Just saw your channel and I want to say thank you for the nice things you said about PR. I am from the island and came to TX when I was about 18 to “get some money to help my parents”, and well 10+ years later that hasn’t happened, it’s definitely not as easy as I thought it would be. I’ve been wanting to go back for some time now but the job situation is what’s holding me back. I am now sure I want to move back, but I guess I have to wait a little to make sure I do things right. Looking forward to more videos.

I like Texas very much, I was stationed there with the Air Force. Now they have direct flights, just 4 hrs. flight time. I thought Tx was a job heaven. The P.Rican community in Tx is growing larger every year.

My wife and I are tentatively planning to move to Puerto Rico in a few years, after she retires (I've been retired for 7 years). We've spent considerable time on the main island, mostly outside of San Juan, and on the isletas of Vieques and Culebra. We're bilingual (English/Spanish) and have spent significant time in places like Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, and Panamá. We lived and worked in México for over eleven years. What do you think about the eastern part of the main island of PR, around Humacao, Naguabo, and Ceiba as possible places for us to relocate?
@JenThereDoneThat
5 жыл бұрын
Clearly, I am biased - I love the east coast. I live in Humacao (Palmas del Mar in within Humacao municipality). Naguabo and Ceiba have some gorgeous areas, and considerably less expensive than Palmas! I think you find something that you adore on the east coast, so go for it!!! Move here and join us in paradise!

JenThereDoneThat palmas is great has everything but for many is too costly. If you don’t need to be on the water then there are other great spots on the island that offer great living if you want a great house in Cabo rojo that has everything for 700 k let me know I’m helping a friend try to sell it

Have you learned Spanish or plan to learn Spanish. I am an American citizen but have lived outside of the USA since the 1970s. I speak and write French, Spanish Portuguese and spoken Dutch as well as Italian. When you speak the local language you will be treated 1000% better and you will learn so much more. I have been to Puerto Rico many times and have many Puerto Rican friends in the mainland and in PR. Enjoy PR. The people are great.

I speak bad Spanish. I understand more of what is said to me and struggle to find the right words to respond in Spanish, so I sound like a toddler. It is pretty funny, and slowly improving. My French is much better than my Spanish (written and spoken).
@gregjohnson720

Jen if you learned French then you probably have the ability to learn a Latin based language. I recommend immersion. Try to get everyone that you talk to converse with you only in Spanish and ask them to correct you when you are wrong. Spanish is a very varied language with lots of vocabulary and pronunciation differences in countries where it is spoken and even differences in the same country. Buena suerte. Saludos de Brasil.

Hi, I would like to know if the hurricane had any negative effects on your standard of living in PR? Also can you make a video on how to move there and house/condo prices etc... We really love your vids! Keep up the good content! Our whole family watches, we are thinking of moving there! Thanks again!!!

Corerok895 I’m originally from Puerto Rico 🇵🇷 I’ve lived in NYC for over 16 years . There’s drug lords and dealers everywhere in the world . I’m not scared of the projects in Puerto rico either . I just came back from there and walked through what they told me were the trap houses and projects of that area everyday by choice . Even the ghettos in Puerto Rico are better than the ghettos in NYC. I’d rather deal with the bullshit in PR than anywhere else in the world .

Hey Jen!!! It's Sept 21st 2019. I came here Sept 9th and will be going back to AZ( usa) Oct 8th. It's been great!!! My cousin open the up a Tucson, Arizona Sonora Mexican food restaurant 6 months ago. I used the opportunity you'll come out on vacation and help him out. He wanted to bring something new and good to the community. It's called "Goongi's" , It's in Rio Grande off the pr 3 where Taco Real used to be. Please try out a great food. it is cheap in the very unique there is nothing like that on the island. Not trying to advertise just to promote good stuff in people's lives. My only problem what Puerto Rico is the mosquitoes also LOL. I'm here for a month and I am so bit up! Im not sure about the job situation, but it's a great place for vacation. The people are great here but learning Spanish would help...half are bilingual. It's better than Mexican and Hawaii put together! LOL
