Damn, All of yall Marylanders complaining..then move to NY..and then you'll appreciate making that 70k after taxes. In NY it costs absolutely wayyyyyyy more..our tolls alone is absolutely crazy..imagine needing close to $100.00 just to leave NY. Imagine paying for paper and plastic bags every time you go food shopping, imagine Milk costing $6.68 cents. And the NY list goes on. Trust me yall good. And not all areas of Maryland taxes like that,I know because I've been researching there as a place to possibly live. NY - $60k (if you're lucky) Groceries - $275 bi weekly for a house of 2. Gas$ $200 depending on car and distance. Riding a train monthly $500 Rent on Long Island or Borough - 1 bedroom $2000, 2 bedroom $2600-2800, 3 bedroom forget about it!! Property tax yearly for some $10-14,000 And the list goes on, please don't complain. At least in Maryland there are other places you can go and.the taxes change, that doesn't happen in NY unless you go ALL THE WAY UPSTATE NEAR NOWHERE!!!

You’re about 50% right. Agreed there’s federal and state tax. Fica is social security, you get this back when you retire (let’s not go into detail about whether or not you will get it back, let’s say we do here for the sake of argument), local tax is some payroll but mainly property tax. If you don’t own a home you don’t pay this. If you do own, you pay it but it doesn’t come out of your gross income. Can’t always believe the sender here. Make sure you do your own research people.

Texan that moved to Maryland, we make less with a bigger/stronger house. House and taxes cost more but literally everything else balances out. Texas property taxes were ridiculous compared to this, electricity, gas, Water, were ridiculous, tolls were ridiculous, insurance is ridiculous, you really get jipped in Texas in both cost and quality of most things. Overall we have a better standard of living here for around the same price. We budgeted our move as if the other monthly payments were gonna be the same and thought we would be scrapping by but that just hasn't happened. We had more issues affording groceries I'm Texas than here and with the sheer amount of things that broke in our old house from 2008, vs the new house from the 1950's still being in great shape, I can say people are brainwashed into believing state taxes are the enemy of the consumer. I thought so too, but overall things are better regulated here. Plus produce and fish are fresher. Don't know how but it just is that way.
