Just great. Years ago, when I was working in beautiful music radio, I had a friend who was obsessed with this song. Anytime I was going to play it, I’d ring his phone once 5 minutes before so he’d have time to get to a radio to hear it.

What pure joy this truly is~!~ This melody perfectly reflects what literally all people, ANYWHERE, wish for in their lives....happiness, and the inner spiritual fulfillment we were created to experience, and then to share~!~ I always feel I'm about to shed a tear(s) of joy each and every time I lay this soothing heart medicine~!~

WOW, I've been looking for this on KZitem for years. I loved this version so much when I was a kid that I absolutely wore the record out (I had it on the album with the tree with a heart carved in it and the man and woman who were NOT Natalie Wood and Tony Curtis, which also featured What's New Pussycat) - it brought tears to my eyes to hear this wonderful arrangement again and thanks so much to you for posting it!

I had the same problem as you. I phoned the radio station (in1965) and asked the artist. "Johnny Douglas" I was told. Could never find Sweetheart tree by Johnny Douglas. One day recently I stumbled on The Sweetheart Tree by the Living Strings-Johnny Douglas conducting. Bingo! there it was. Five and one half decades later!

I haven't heard this version in 55 years and for my money it's the only one that does this gorgeous ballad justice. Not even Henry Mancini the composer has equaled this. I remember hearing it around 1966 on WNNP Evanston IL and calling in to find the name of the song and just as important, the artist. Johnny Douglas said they. For decades I looked for The Sweetheart Tree by Johnny Douglas, Finally I connected his name with The Living Strings and voila! There was no actual orchestra called the Living Strings. They were an assortment of musicians assembled to perform from time to time and conducted by Johnny Douglas among others. So the mystery is solved.

@@richardkirschenbaum640 What about the version by Percy Faith? That's similar to this one right?

@@happierabroad Thanks Happier. Hadn't heard it. Will definitely check it out. Thanks again. I worked in a body shop in 1966 and one radio played easy listening and the other country (she wasn't ready fer lovin, so I shoved her head in the oven). I got aquainted with Frank Chacksfield (British Ochestra) and heard his version of Buttons and Bows. It was like an anthem. I dopped my tools and stood at attention for that and On the Atcheson Topeka and the Santa Fe. Check them out. Both on Utube

@@richardkirschenbaum640 Hi Richard! I am glad you finally found this gorgeous song! I've bought any Living Strings album I've been able to find in good condition, including this song's album with a different cover of a couple at a tree. The American Symphonette Orchestra did a great version of this song, too. I love Frank Chacksfield's albums I've bought too. I don't see his "Buttons And Bows" now but I know that great song by others. Happy new month and stay safe!
