I have to admit to being a bit jealous, but I'll settle for my 1992 AE93. It may be FWD, but it has that amazing smallport 4AGE, and while I can't really drift it, it's still a whole lot of fun on a twisty mountain road. Much respect to you for keeping these classics looking and sounding good, and most of all at not leaving them hidden in a garage 365 days a year. Enjoy!

Troy Wilkins smallport 4AG heads are awesome. Got any for sale? LMK!
@heidirichter
9 жыл бұрын
MotorMavens Hahaha I do actually, but I think shipping it from Australia may be a little expensive, and plus I think it's warped, so I don't know if it's any good, will have to get it checked soon, it was on an engine that was doing 3750rpm or so, driving at 110km/h (about 68mph) on a day it was well over 40 degrees C (over 100 degrees F) and one of the radiator hoses split, sending all the coolant out in only a few moments. So there is a change that head is too far warped and may even be cracked, I have not had it checked yet, but I know it's warped that much that you can see it no longer was flush with the block... Poor smallport :(

She has everything to give you deep joy of driving - RWD, little 'state of art' engine, enough power for most roads, silk gearchange, predictable and fun roadholding, good sound and - the most important - this lovely, unobstructed & natural feeling of driver-to-car chit-chat: I'm taking to Car with easy and the Car is taking to me clearly. These cars take minimal effort to get the most rewarding driving experience. You just cannot recreate it in modern vehicles. So basic and so rewarding. Drive safe!

That was my first car I bought when I was 16. I drove it all through high school. I could easily fit seven or eight friend in there. The summer before I went to college a friend and I raced it in amateur events at the Riverside Park Speedway in Massachusetts. They closed the track at the end of that year. We did a Halloween race and turned it into a alien UFO with cardboard and bondo. Great memoirs. Thanks for the video.

There is something about the pure utilitarian designs of the 80s that I really love. Really nice subtle mods here, nothing over the top, I dig 'em both! People often miss what's probably the greatest thing about these cars: their low-speed performance. You have to drive sports cars at hyper-legal speeds to have fun but an 86 with little more than the right springs, dampers, and tires can make 35mph damn exciting. It's too easy to over-tire an 86.

My first teenage beater was an 84 GTS that had a tree fall on the back end (which is how I got it for $150). Didn't hurt it all that much, but it's the one car I really miss. It was underpowered, but the balance of the thing! Outside of snow, I never got the back end in front of me without purpose. I drove the snot out of it, got 40 mpg (when I was in 'gotta make it to payday' mode) and all I had to do was general maintenance to get her beyond 288K miles. It was still running when I obligated myself to a '90 240sx to get my knees off the dash, but had I the foresight...
