Hi Liam, thanks for the video. Can you please post any videos about how have been using it? and may be any work you may have done with it using LOAM or SLAM algorithms, etc.

Hi Liam thanks for the video. it helped me a lot. I recently purchase the Livox Avia Lidar and it is set up and running fine. I can see the scan. However it's not mapping the path that I want it to map. Do I need another device or software for the mapping? I'm reading about R3Live, LOAM, SLAM etc but none of these make any sense to me. What am I missing and should be doing?

Did you get pointcloud object detection working for the Livox?

I purchased this device recently and tried to put in a static IP and completed the device reboot. Now it will not connect either by static or dynamic IP. And I can not get back into device to change anything. Are you aware of any way to reset the device without the IP connection? Thanks

I'm not aware of a physical button that lets you reset the device, so you'll have to troubleshoot. I assume it's just forcing the default static IP, which according to the Livox website (www.livoxtech.com/mid-40-and-mid-100/faq) is 192.168.1.11. This may present a few issues... 1) Your router rejects this IP, because it isn't part of your subnet mask. Check first if the device shows up as an entry on your router; if that fails, you can try listening for ARP broadcasts like I did in the video when you power on the Mid-40. 2) Something else on your network has the same IP. If neither of these points are the issue you're experiencing, we can troubleshoot further.

@@LiamStojanovic Thank you for the quick response. I ran an IP discover in the range of 1 though 250 and got no return. I am concerned that I input a incorrect IP address on the unit when I switched it to static IP and did the reboot in the LIVOX viewer app. device setting. I misunderstood the direction and changed the device IP to 192.168.1."1" and this may have disabled the IP communication? as the default router is the same address? Do you think it is possible to reset though an alternate method other than TCP IP? (Working with LIVOX, but that is painfully slow) Thanks again

@@LiamStojanovic Finally got it working today. I found a third windows firewall setting that I had not turned off before. Strange that it impacted fixed IP and not dynamic IP? Also double checked all power and network connections. Next I am looking to make it portable (that was the reason for fixed IP) and run the ROS with Slam to scan buildings. Thanks for your input and helpful suggestions. Cheers!

@@stevenblevins3141 Interesting, I can't really comment on the Windows behavior because I do all my technical work in Linux. Admittedly, the Mid-40 can be finicky from a networking perspective so I'm glad you managed to resolve your issue. Glad to hear it! Good luck with your project, Lidar is really cool to experiment with.

Great video! very useful to know basics about this device. You've tried to scan inside a pipe? (3"-4"), I readed livox mid has problems with cylindrical objects, and surely has the same problems inside pipes. It would be great if you did that test. THANKS A LOT!

@@denzle83 Of course! I'll do my best to help. Let's walk through a few steps, and see if all of these work for you. 1) Make sure you are working with the most current version of Livox from their website. The link is here: www.livoxtech.com/mid-40-and-mid-100/downloads . The most current version is 0.5.0 2) Verify that your sha256sum matches mine. You can use the command "sha256 YOUR_FILE_HERE" to check this. The sha256sum for the tar.gz file you download from their website is a07d88c549a27774bd4fd0a76868e6a2d8e3069ebd4de93fca56e9ddbc2b9555. Unzip this package, and once you do so verify the livox_viewer.sh file as well. The sha256sum for this file is f285a0538af47c9c6dee3924331233b5a05abcb3c7c3b3a35baca761069ef110. 3) Run the command "chmod +x livox_viewer.sh". This will mark the livox_viewer.sh as an executable. 4) Run the command "uname -m". This should give you the output "x86_64". If you do not see this, that means your system architecture cannot run the software. 5) If all of the above steps have gone ok, then run the command "sh livox_viewer.sh". You should now see the livox viewer. Let me know if you get stuck anywhere, or if this works for you!
