This song is the cry for and from millions of people. Having a decent Father bring you up or at least be in your life is beyond words and rare.

Every now and then it's good to listen to a sad hip hop track. Keeps people in focus with life. Mine are: This can't be life by Jay Z, Slippin by DMX, Everything is gonna be alright by Naughty By Nature, Georgie Poorgie by MC Lyte. I love sad hip hop tracks. Peace.

I was eleven when this song came out, and I remember being drawn to the song through LL Cool J’s storytelling. Although my father has always been around, LL Cool J’s writing skills allowed me to see where he was coming from and brought me to actual tears. Unfortunately, that’s something that many of today’s mainstream artists are lacking; songs with an actual message.

I was 10 when this song came out. And like you, I loved and was drawn to this song for his messages and storytelling. My dad was always there too. But I had friends who shared similar stories like LL. I made them listen to this song and it helped them in some way. ❤

I almost cried listening to this. Fathers have no idea how important and significant they are for the son and daughter. Being fatherless is more of a horrible thing than simple words can explain and you can be fatherless even when your father lives in the same house as you. So many times that cycle of abuse, behavioral problems, violence, and the like continues for generations. I'm glad Todd didn't follow in his father's footsteps or his mom's next boyfriend's footsteps.

To his credit LL survived and thrived, so many don't; his father never served time for his crimes and later tried to take over his son's life. LL allowed him back in but realized he had to put distance between the 2 of them when he starting butting into his relationship with the woman he married, he saw him for what he truly is.
