It's that time of year again - April 27th 2019, would see the Railway Touring Company's 12th annual 9-day steam hauled trek across the country, 'The Great Britain XII', disembark from the Capital, with LMS Coronation Class no. 6233 'Duchess of Sutherland', at the head of the train for Day 1, from Paddington to Plymouth via the Great Western Mainline - this year's 'GBXII' would later pick up other locomotives over the course of the next 8 days, including A4 60009 'Union of South Africa', B1 1264, 60103 'Flying Scotsman' and more - Note the casting of the initials 'ND' on the headboard being carried - a fitting tribute to the late Nigel Dobbing, the former Chairman of the RYTC, who passed away last year, and of which would be the first Great Britain to have departed minus his presence.
No. 6233 is firstly seen in this video being dragged into Paddington station ahead of the railtour, by the rear gunner Class 47 746, before a quick look around the locomotive before departure. Having gotten into her stride, the 'Duchess' secondly passes Chippenham albeit into the strong north-easterly wind, turning a few heads as she stomped through the platform, followed by the arrival into Bristol Temple Meads for a pathing stop, having taken water and dropping off of the Class 47 on the rear just beforehand, and finally captured alongside the coastal seawall and through Dawlish, in some gorgeous Spring sunshine, and by which time the strong winds had calmed down - another bucket list shot to be ticked off the list! I had also filmed the tour at Burnham, but owing to the strong winds affecting my audio, I decided to leave this clip out.
All shots filmed in 4K with a Panasonic VX980 camcorder with a Takstar SGC-598 Microphone.
