The Severn Valley Railway hosted their first "Winter Steam Gala" over the 6th-7th of January 2024. An intensive timetable with a variety of full-line and local services saw a total of 6 locos from the SVR's home fleet in operation over the weekend.
Also due to star during the gala was USATC S160 2-8-0 No. 2253 'Omaha' (on short-term loan to the SVR from Dartmouth), though mechanical problems sadly resulted in this loco being withdrawn from the roster at short notice, being replaced by BR Standard 4MT No. 75069.
I had originally planned to cover the SVR's Winter Gala on a wider basis regarding locations and motive power, though having recently suffered from illness I didn't consider myself fit for being lineside long-term. As such, I decided to focus my video efforts solely on LMS Ivatt 4MT 2-6-0 No. 43106, with the gala marking the loco's final runs prior to withdrawal, having reached the end of its boiler ticket.
I therefore headed over to Orchard Crossing on the morning of 6th January, where 43106 is seen accelerating past bound for Kidderminster with a matching rake of LMS stock in tow, a truly magnificent sight to behold.
