I was part of a TOW missile loading team, four missiles loaded either side of a Lynx aircraft (eight in total). The first day of training we were a mess. Last part of the drill was engaging the 'arming lever', making the missiles live, something you didn't do until all the team had moved away from the forward and rear blast area of the missiles (in case of misfire) and all of us were forever forgetting to either engage the arming lever or engaging with personnel stood in blast zones. Two days of training it all came together for majority of class except for a few who just couldn't master lightening fast loading/unloading/loading drills or the correct use of the arming lever. First time we carried out live drills all the training and prep worked in our favour, all missiles loaded, fired and unloaded correctly.

Reminder these shells weigh almost 40 pounds and are quite bulky with no good spot to grip and this guy is clearly just starting his training or not at experienced as some other loaders in an Abrams, so it would make sense why he would be somewhat struggling to load such a heavy shell in a somewhat cramped turret (granted not as cramped as some but still quite cramped). The good thing about him learning like this is that he will likely be able to load that shell in a snap even when the vehicle is in moving combat. Heck German loaders in the Tiger 2 could load that things long 88mm in less than 4 seconds if the crew was experienced enough.

Batteries runnin low. Ol dude probably just had his first 48 hours of tank training, just all stacked into 3 range days. Probably half dead, but not doing poorly. Unless he was supposed to grab a HEAT that last time.

As a Retired armor officer, he is very slow to arm the gun and announce UP. He also needs to do maintenance on the aft cap deflector as keeps having to help it up. And the gunner needs to roll his sleeves down. Huge safety issue.

When I was younger at a little military museum style place , they had rounds that were dead, but filled to an accurate weight. They were heavy as all hell. Now imagine that in a confined space , full gear , bouncing around in a loud , intense environment. Good job , proud to see people serving their homeland.

I work with an army tanker veteran. He used to average 2.7 seconds per round loaded. He said this guy would get kicked out of his crew for loading like this. This is coming from a 19k veteran.

As a reloader, there is no fail in this video, The time to reload should not pass 7 seconds... His first reload was 16 seconds, his second reload was 13 seconds, his third reload was 12 seconds, his fourth reload was 10 seconds, his last reload was 9 seconds.

First round out the trap door, fails to put his support hand underneath the AVCAP, which is why he nearly drops it. Fails to immediately throw the bar down to open the breach, and immediately after loading for ready-up. He adjusts his glasses several times because he's looking down...for no reason. Finally, he keeps hitting the ammo door latch itself, when there should be a pedal next to his hip to do that to keep his hands free to grab rounds. All in all, he alone cost his tank an extra 2-5 seconds every engagement they had in this video. If this was the kid's first set of engagements at first gunnery, I'd cut him slack up to table 3. If it persisted, he'd have a come-to-jesus talk with his PSG, followed by remedial training on rubber duck rounds and the CCTT 'til his arms went limp. His effort was minimal because he was either too distracted being nervous, too timid to be aggressive, and/or too tired from an improper rest plan (by fault of his leadership). If the latter, immediate 3hr food and rest plan after coming off the trail, wake up and a two red bulls, and hard charge the f*** outa that next table...no less than 3-5 second load times! Ok. I'm done.

So the procedure is.. pull down lever to open gun breech, open the ammo rack, get the 120mm Shell, put the warhead side to the front, push It down the gun breech, get out of the way of the recoil, pull the Lever up and announce to the gunner that IS loaded and ready... Rinse and repeat..
