Lil' Gun is what I've been using for 20ga 3" 1 oz waterfowl loads for yrs. Data was from Ballistic Products Advantages manual or their Status of steel manual. The only thing I changed was the recommended wad.... TPS 2051 which has been discontinued. I use the csd 2023 wad with no issues....velocities run between 1355-1400 with 34-35grs of LG....pressures are in the mid 10,000. No over pressure signs at all....

I was looking for lil gun data but couldnt find it. That’s a much better load than the blue dot.

I use Lil’gun exclusively in my 20ga waterfowl loads. I use the precision reloading 20ga wad in a 3” ched. Hull, 34.5gr LG and 1oz of 3 shot. I need to make a video showing the patterns. It’s wicked and it’s going 1450fps.

The 2 3/4" CSD steel wad fits well with 7/8oz steel 3s in a 2 3/4" Hull with 24grains of bluedot.. So basically your 3" load in a 2 3/4" hull

I reload 2-3/4" 20ga Super-X shells, 2092 wad cut to 1.6", w/19gr Longshot, 3/4oz #6 steel shot, w/overshot card. For this same 3/4oz steel load, I've also used 19gr Herco, or 14gr Red Dot.

This is good stuff. When you kayak waterfowl hunt like I do, the benefits of a 20 over a 12 gauge can't be ignored. You can get 1 ounce of steel in a 3" hull. It just isn't at any sort of usable waterfowl velocity. 7/8ths seems to be the sweet spot but it takes tons of cross referencing and double checking to get a load with good enough velocity. I like to be around 1500 or higher with steel. 1400ish with bismuth. Data is out there but it's hard to come by for 20 gauge.

Thanks guys! I was looking for 20ga 2 3/4" steel loads because none of my 16's can have steel shot through them. I prefer carrying a 20 over a 12 in the uplands due to weight. That's why I was pestering you boys about some 20 ga data. The cost of "cheap" 2 3/4"steel shot in both 12 and 20 are ridiculously expensive ($10 a box ain't cheap) and STEEL powder is still non-existent. Just wanted to say thanks for the video. It will give me a place to land if I come across some blue dot.

I’ll be doing another one soon, I’ve got a much better load now. I was also looking for lil gun data and couldn’t find any but now I have some.

Great channel, love what you do. Learned a lot from you, big thanks for that. I would love to see some 12 gauge 2 3/4 steel loads (24 or 28 gramms) for clay shooting. Greetings from the Netherlands

Great video and your putting it lightly when it comes to Longshot and steel loads it best to stick to published load data exactly with Longshot!

Especially in 20 gauge. It’s alright in 12 gauge for steel and not bad at all in 10 gauge for loads around 1 3/8 ounces or less.

Other than the little bit of load data on ballistic products website, have you found load data for the bp2092 elsewhere? I was reading a thread on a shotgun forum(can’t remember which one) but some one suggested the bp2092 could be used as a replacement for the TP 2092…. Now I know BP website expressly says it’s not a replacement, is that just to cover their ass and it can be used as a replacement? I know it’s a different material so I assume that’ll change things. Thanks for any insight. Thanks for the 20 ga vids also!

Would you say bismuth is safer on the barrels compared to tss? I know it comes down to what was your using but still
@theshotgunscientists

Bismuth doesn’t need a shot cup at all. It’s softer than lead actually.

It would be great if you could do a bismuth loading video (if you could justify the cost, that is). The only bismuth video I see on your channel is just testing a Salt Creek loading

What do you think about steele shot out of an older shotgun barrel....ive heard various things. First i heard that it was mostly bullshht that it caused any harm to barrels, and that ot was more of a marketing thing to sell new guns....and that most people just shot steel through the old gund they had with no problem. I also jeard that it only caused bulging issues at the end of a barrel if you had a tight choked non removable choke barrel, and cutting it back would allow you to shoot steal....what is your thoughts about steele in older sgotgun barrrls?
@theshotgunscientists
Жыл бұрын
Older guns can shoot steel, but you so absolutely need a steel shot wad and it’s probably best to stick to modified choke. It also depends on how thin the barrel is in the choke area. I wouldn’t shoot steel through an old gun with a fixed full choke though.

Hi, You mentioned in one of your videos about a year ago about using a hair straightener to condition case mouths. Can you let me know which video that is in or do a new video showing how it done. Cheers

10 gauge buckshot at the range part 1. Skip to about 21 minutes in if I remember right. I just filmed another video showing how to do it actually.

Wow, that's a great trick. All I have to do now is to find the appropriate hair streightener. How's the powder availability over there, here in Australia it's unavailable and they tell me it won't be until next year.

Does the steel shot have less range because of its density? I've only used it a little bit in my 12 sometimes I find it super cheap around 9.99 for a 25 shell box

@@theshotgunscientists thank you. that's good to know because it shoots really good I've only found number 6 shot but, it works well at 25 to 35 yards with full choke in my daniel defense benelli clone I should have gotten the MACM1014 tho😂
