I've just bought a pair from the loake shop in York , I was only going to have an old pair of Bedales sent off to be repaired they were a G fitting , the Bedales showed signs of cracking on the sides , so the assistant measured my foot telling me my foot was too narrow for a Bedale The assistant then showed me the Burfords which are an F fitting which are now in the sales . I tried the Burfords , I just had to have them as they fitted perfectly , and just took the Bedales home . I'm glad I called in . Nothing like personal service ! .

I live in Canada and our winters can be quite harsh. I personally like leather soles on my dress shoes, but they're not very practical in the snow, and uppers don't hold up very well when exposed to the salt put on the roads. A pair of lined and/or unlined winter boots are pretty standard in just about everybody's closet here. I currently have a pair of Loake Chelsea boots designated as my winter boots, and I'm going to add a pair of their brogued derby boots to my collection due to their versatility when worn casually, worn with tweed or worn in the winter. It's very important to care for leather shoes in the winter, starting by wiping them off with a damp cloth, applying conditioner and polish as needed followed by buffing and shining regularly. I highly recommend using a waterproofing/sealing spray as well which stops the salt from penetrating the leather, so it can be easily wiped off. An acquaintance of mine wears Loake Chelsea boots as his everyday shoes. They take a good amount of abuse, but he has a very rigorous care routine, and they're still going strong seven years later. The thing I like about Loake is I think you get a pretty good value at the price point. They're the nicest shoe brand I can buy brand new in my city in a store. They're definitely not the nicest shoes out there, but they do offer some nice calf leathers, and fairly respectable last shapes. Many men wear Allen Edmonds in my area (they're quite readily available) but from my experience with the brand, I think Loake is a much better option in terms of being consistent with quality control. I've found that some of the Loake loafers have a very uncomfortable break-in period, but are completely fine and become comfortable once they've broken in. Other than that, I've had no issues with them and I feel very comfortable buying Loake shoes brand new. The majority of my footwear collection is vintage or secondhand high-end shoes, although I do have a very rapidly expanding Loake section. Thanks for the review, it's helped me narrow down the search for my next pair of Loake boots!

Great review. I just purchased a pair of Loake Angelsey and they should arrive in a week or so, I'm in Canada. I was fortunate to come across a store locally that was having a 50% off sale but they did not have my size, 9.5UK. They did have a 9 and a 10. The 10 was a bit too big and the 9 too small, so the 9.5 should be just right.

Great choice, I love the Angelsey boot. It is traditional and yet still casual enough to wear in almost all situations. I particularly like the oxblood colour, which is my personal favourite shoe/boot colour as it is just so versatile in daily life. Good luck with the boots!

My new Loake Burford boots arrived about an hour ago 😁😁😁😁. The first thing I noticed when I opened the box was the amazing smell of new leather. Superb smell! They are so comfortable. I got the burgundy coloured boots and they look fantastic. I can’t wait to put as much of a mirror shine as possible on them. One thing I noticed is, on the tongue, there are a pair of vertical slits. Anyone know what they are for? These are the nicest looking and most expensive footwear I’ve ever bought. Well worth the money in my opinion.

I've had the 2 pairs of Burfords for about 4-years now and they look great and have barely aged at all - really great quality for the price. Do you ever moisturise the tan Burfords ? I used Saphir Renovateur on my tan Burfords and its darken them quite abit and lost its tan orangey appeal.
@TheChapsGuide
3 жыл бұрын
I do apply renovateur and pommadier cream (light brown) to my Burfords. It has darkened them to a degree, but whatever you apply will tend to darken leather which is so light in colour, even neutral wax polish will have a darkening effect. Renovateur is just about the most gentle conditioning cream on the market, so if this has had a significant effect you may have trouble maintaining the colour going forward. Personally, I quite like the patina that the boots take on as they age and darken.

I have heard good things about the service, which essentially amounts to a total overhaul and refurbishment of the shoe/boot. The price-point is north of £100 (depending on the shoe), so you would have to weigh up the value proposition over buying a new pair of boots. Personally I would not hesitate, when my Burfords need it, they will be going back home for the full service!

Goodyear welted and made in India, reasonably priced in most cases. Personally I think I would prefer more traditional brands, where I know the shoes are expertly made and I can send the shoes back for factory repairs if needed. Some of OS shoes are over £300. At that point I would always go traditional or even Spanish (Carmina, Meermin).
