Loch Earn, Scotland, A Drive By.
This video follows the A85 from St Fillans to Lochearnhead, from Perthshire into Stirlingshire in central Scotland. The route is used as a tourist route especially by motorcyclists.
Loch Earn is a long, narrow freshwater loch located in the southern highlands of Scotland, within the Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park. It stretches for about 6.5 miles (10.5 km) from west to east, with a maximum width of around 0.6 miles (1 km).
The loch is the source of the River Earn, which eventually joins the River Tay near the village of Bridge of Earn. The villages of Lochearnhead and St Fillans are situated at the western and eastern ends of the loch, respectively.
Loch Earn is unusual in that it exhibits a 'tidal system' or seiche, caused by wind pressure on the water surface, resulting in oscillating water levels at opposite ends of the loch with a period of around 16 hours.
The loch is popular for fishing (stocked with brown and rainbow trout), sailing, water-skiing, wakeboarding, and canoeing.
Evidence of ancient loch dwellings (crannogs) indicates human settlement in the area for over 2,000 years.
Notable historical sites near the loch include Edinample Castle (built in 1584) and Ardvorlich House (dating back to 1580).
