A patient with chronic "TMJ" problems experiences a troubling escalation of her jaw problems in that she finds that she suddenly and acutely cannot open her jaw all the way. She seeks help from Dr. Nick Yiannios of Rogers, Arkansas, who proceeds to objectively assess her condition using dental CT, Joint Vibration Analysis, and electromyography to conclude that her problem is at least partly resultant of spastic chewing muscles. In less than an hour, Dr. Nick applies the principles of Disclusion Time Reduction (DTR) to calm her spastic muscles so that she can open and move her jaw again normally, THAT day. The entire objectively guided procedure aided by the use of digital modalities occurred in one visit over a 45 minute time period, and did not involve splints, massage, laser treatments, medications or any of the typical TMD protocols.
