Yeah I could see this playing while stranded in a howling blizzard under the freezing moon of Norway. This scale definitely sounds frosty and chilling. A great sound for black metal

I love the Locrian mode actually it’s got a mixture of both light and dark…. I will try to write more riffs using this mode….

I see it as pretty damn dark lol, but yeah, it's funny that you can use it to write extra dissonant passages and then randomly switch to the relative major quite easily.

Release the Kraken!!! Tired of people diss'n the Locrian Mode. It's always like 'There are 6 modes and then we have the Locrian Mode. We'll just skip over it.' I think it sounds awesome.

Buddy, even in my ambient projects I couldn't make locrian work well. That was damn impressive and didn't sound like an "experiment".

You're using a power chord which is Root + Perfect 5th. Isn't the flat 5th in Locrian and not the Perfect 5th? I'm in the beginning stages of learning theory and am curious about this. Thanks Simon awesome song!

When the root of the power chord is a C or an F# it would be a diminished 5th yes. Otherwise, regular power chords are still in key 🙂
