The cabin build is coming along fine! It's great that the weather is sorta cooperating with you also! With the cats, you might have one come back. That would be ok, ask me how I know! The quote of the week comes from your son, "they're so cute, right" , sounds just like his Dad! ❤️ Amazing how kids mirror their parents! Good to see the family and y'all have a great weekend! 🇺🇸👍😁

Haha thanks JB! We are also hoping the same in regards to the kitties, and I’ve heard that my son sounds and looks a little like me. 😂 that’s for the channel support and have a great weekend also!!

Keep putting food out and they will be back. I had a wild one that came to eat and she was tame enough for me to pet him but no one else.

The cats are free raised. it is the cycle of life. Time to learn to live in the wild. At least you got them healthy with food and water so hopefully they will thrive and survive.

Man I can’t wait for the next video. What type of foundation are you going to make? Where in relation to the current cabin will the final resting spot be? Keep up the great work. Your friend from Virginia.

Thanks for the compliments, And questions! The dream foundation is a walkout basement, feasibility is still tbd but that will be figured out in the next few weeks. The cabin is close to its final resting spot, but will be turn about 30 degrees with the front windows facing a little more towards the view.

So, what's next stoning the driveway or the basement, foundation? Who will be doing the foundation work? Would be cool to have an old stone look on any showing foundation. Sorry about the kitties, if they're like the ones in our neighborhood they'll be back!! Looking great so far!!

Thanks Charles! And great questions. The driveway widening work and rafter hunting will continue next week. I want the driveway as good as it can get before I call for gravel, but that is in the near future. It is taking longer than expected, but I feel it’s my most important job right now. After that it will be foundation, I plan to get a quote on a full basement walkout, and if it’s in the budget and the trucks can make the driveway that’s the route I wanna go. I do think a sandstone veneer on the lower level is in the cards, and I know a great cheap place to get a load of sandstone! We are all hoping you’re right about the kitties! Thanks for the comment and questions!

Great progress mate. I was just wondering though, why you're not building the cabin in its 'forever spot? Aren't you just increasing your workload by a s**t ton? Not being facetious, genuinely interested. I've used a similar insulating material and I found the best way to cut it was with an electric bread knife fitted with meat cutting blades. Absolutely bonkers fast! If you want to stick with scissors get a pair of wallpaper scissors or a set of sheep shearing scissors. I went the wallpaper scissors way first, but after two under-floors I swapped for the electric knife! btw - I quit working for the week as it was 43C today with forecast or more of the same this week! (Spanish East coast).

I appreciate the tips, might have to try that out! I also appreciate the question, i didn’t start with a foundation because when I started the cabin my driveway was not passable by large truck. The ground was also still freezing and thawing so driveway work was hit or miss depending on the weather. Further more, working with green logs framing it here temporarily has allowed it to dry and settle. When it goes on the foundation much of that movement should already have taken place. I see the big log builders build like this and then reassemble on location, figured that was my best step with these other variables I was dealing with. Hope that helps clarify a little!

How are you going to stop the mice from getting in?
@DIYDemasi
2 ай бұрын
If you are referring to between the logs, over the insulation will be chinking which mice can’t get through. And if you are referring to the bottom, the cabin is going to be placed on a permanent foundation. Thank you for the question
