Following on from the EFM1 video from a few months ago, Jono is returning his attention to the power of FM synthesis this week, looking at the dedicated page for this within Retro Synth. In particular, he's going to explore the Oscillator stage, one parameter at a time, to explain exactly what's going on as a sound develops. He'll then introduce LFO Modulation, so you can see how introducing rapidly moving modulation waves into the Oscillator stage can do amazing things for the harmonic structure of a sound. FM is so frequently overlooked as it seems a little alien and somehow less predictable than instruments which use subtractive synthesis. But the possibilities for building sounds with a unique sonic character is well worth exploring.
