It would nice to have apply automation to all regions options. If you drag the hats loop across (top right) does it copy the region automation? Thanks Jono, I never actually used region automation before as I didn’t know it’s application, and now I do :)

Hi John. Yes, Regions will copy Automation data, whether you choose to actually copy them, as I have in this video, or if you loop regions. The Automation will be seen as 'part of the region', so it will be repeated alongside whatever is inside the region. Hope that helps!

Isn’t it possible also to apply region automation teeaks, and then drag the region out to loop it in the upper right corner of the region? As far I remember, one can then turn these loop instances of a region into unique regions afterwards. That will maybe be an easier way to apply the same automation on all regions, than copy paste several times.

That's absolutely right. Looped regions will repeat the Region Automation too and you can click and drag out for the length of loop cycles you need. You're also right that you can then convert these loops to 'real' copies. Use Control+L to do that very thing.

Any particular reason why you duplicate regions (option-drag) rather than using the loop tool?
@jonobuchananmusic

Hi Didier. Good question. No, no particular reason. Across the videos on the channel, sometimes I copy (as you've outlined above), sometimes use the Loop function and sometimes use Command-R to repeat, all of which will duplicate regions. There is an advantage to 'real' copies rather loops if you want to vary what's inside a region, but otherwise they all achieve a similar outcome. Hope that helps!

Superb, Jono, thanks! For searchers/beginners like me who benefit from playing with examples: Many Apple Loops (Red Haze Chords, for example) come equipped with very instructive region automation “baked in.” Is there a way to search for the ones that have this in the Apple Loop browser?

That is a great question. I’m not sure you can search for loops by Automation status but I’ll have a look and get back to you if I find anything out.

Thank you Jono! Can I use the same technique to correct various dialogue tracks imported from FCP? I tried adding en effect but the same is applied to entire track. If I add echo to one character , the effect is added to the entire track. I am a beginner..I did try to google but was unable to find any guidance in this regard..

Hello! It sounds like the dialogue tracks have all been imported onto a single track, which means that if you add effects, they'll be applied to everything, as Insert effects are track-specific. If that's correct, and you're only seeing one Audio Track after importing from FCP, select that track by clicking the Track header (it'll probably be called Audio 1), and then click the Duplicate Tracks button, which is above the Track List (the icon is a + in a square, superimposed on top of another square). This will create a duplicate Audio Track and you can keep Duplicating until you have enough tracks for each voice to have its own Track. Then click 'T' to bring up the Toolbox and select the Scissors Tool, clicking on the original track to separate each voice. You can then move each voice to its own Track. Then, each Track can have its own effects solution which will be exclusive to that voice. I hope that helps.

What if I have automation on Summing stack and need to move it?
@jonobuchananmusic

Hi Dan. Use the Pencil Tool to create an empty region over the area where you have Automation on the Summing Stack and then you can move that region (and the Automation now inside it) just like any other region. Hope that helps.
