The quality of this video is excellent! Two things you didn't mention: 1) Ableton's warp modes. They are incredibly powerful, and in my opinion make up for not having flex tool. 2) Wavetable and Analog synths in Ableton only come with the Suite version, which is the most expensive version. Just something to note.

Great video, and super useful for people trying to decide between these two DAWS! I definitely needed this kind of video when I was starting out! There's a few important details that were missed on Logic's side, and thought it would be worth mentioning: for instance, zooming functionality (which I find more intuitive in Logic with shortcut keys and frustrating in Ableton); the fact that you can't split MIDI notes in Ableton (never understood why); the ability in Logic to have 3 different tools at once if you're using a mouse (left click, command-click, and right click) which makes editing, manipulating, and chopping clips a breeze; and even down to having a proper mixer in front of you like in Logic, where you can see everything, including proper meters with exact levels, and you can see all your sends/aux channels, etc. One final thing: you mentioned the drum rack in Logic not looking welcoming, but not sure why you are still using Ultrabeat, when you have the amazing new Drum Machine Designer which integrates the new Sampler/Quick Sampler, and I find is far better than Ableton's Drum Rack. Anyways, I see the benefits of both DAWS and jump between them like you, but since the 10.5 update, Logic has made a major leap in functionality and design that I think is important to mention. That being said, I know it would take too much time in a video to go into those kinds of minute details. And, of course, in the end, it all comes down to personal preference! Especially now that Ableton 11 will finally(!!) have comping like in Logic. Again, thank you for making this video!
@Schmorgle

Such great points!! And the more comments I read about things I missed in Logic, the more I'm certainly compelled to make another video: especially with Live 11 coming out. I've been dipping back into Logic recently as some of my older tunes are in there and I want to finish them. I've been trying to utilize the multitool function while in there and for whatever reason it just doesn't click with me (pun intended). There's something about Ableton's single mouse click that feels more intuitive than the multi-functional mouse click in Logic. I always find myself accidentally using a tool I didn't mean to use and switching back. Especially when cutting and fading. I think this is entirely preference as I can see on paper how Logic clearly wins here. As for sends and aux I absolutely hear this. It's way more clean in Logic. Once I got used to Ableton's flow, I find myself needing to check the meters in a "classic" way less imperative. Maybe I'm just...not a good mixer lol.But I've never felt the need to stare at the mixer longer than a few seconds while creating. I mostly do things by ear and at a glance. Perhaps a bad habit. Lastly, the new Drum Machine designer was horribly neglected purely due to the lack of experience. In fact, I don't even think I had it updated at the time of my recording. I've seen my buddy use it along with the smart drummer and it seems way more powerful. That'll be my first stop on the next video. Thanks SO much for your thoughtful comment!! Keep making music!

I just switch to LPX about 6 weeks ago, after many years of working everyday in Live. There was a steep learning curve coming from Live, and it was necessary to be patient with myself, and take the time to google very routine stuff. But since Live was my first DAW, I didn’t realize all the features in lacks, and frankly I don’t need live performance features in my DAW. I couldn’t ramble on about it, but I don’t think I’ll be going back.

@@Robert-kx8mp Glad you were able to find the DAW that works best for you! I totally hear you on these points and 100% agree. Cool video man, thanks! Just wanted to chime in (I know I know). You forgot about the "Mixer" in Logic and how you don't have to go into another window to access it. Also, all your plug-ins are right there. Now I'm not 100% sure about this next part because I use Logic for work (professional audio engineer) so I could be wrong. However, I'm pretty sure that Logic has a drum machine designer that is pretty much exactly the same as what you showed in Abelton. If my memory serves me correctly it's a series of boxes that you can drag and drop (or maybe load ??) different sounds in. However, I could be wrong. Thanks for the video tho man I'm getting ready to learn another DAW for work and I wanted to learn a little about Abelton. I'm currently using Logic for all my mixing and Harrison Mixbus to master. It's a toss-up between Abelton and Studio One. Thanks again!

I've been on the fence between the two... I've been using Logic but there's just something about it that feels so clunky and unappealing. I recently installed Live Lite and just the design of the interface alone puts me in the most creative headspace. All the instruments, loops & plugins being there on the left is so good for workflow. And I love that you can create scenes... as a songwriter I often get SO MANY ideas and being able to just record all of them so quickly gives me the ability to get the idea down and listen back for what works best. I've been using Reaper for a while now and love it. I do wish it had a comp feature similar to Logic Pro though. You can kind of do it in Reaper, however it's not as intuitive and I find it easier just to put my second take on a brand new track. It's cool that Logic comes with so many MIDI instruments. My DAW didn't come with much, so I just got a MIDI controller. Yikes! That Logic drum rack does not look very user friendly. Ableton's built in synth looks like it would be fun to mess around with. I think if I had to choose one of these, I would go with Ableton because of its great drum and MIDI tools. Maybe I'll pick it up in the future.
