The script, as written by Matt Michnovetz, takes this idea and runs with it. Even Rhea Perlman's Cid, who up until this point had largely served as a narrative device through which the show could prompt the characters of Clone Force 99 with various missions and tasks, becomes a fully-fledged, active character here. She goes on the mission with the leading trio, becomes crucially involved in the narrative, and her role directly furthers the central thematic crux of the season thus far as the episode takes the time to explore the moral ambiguity of her past and her role in the clones' lives. Crucial to the story of "Faster" is the introduction of a sport called Riotracing, which is essentially podracing without any rules or regulations. Racers can and do use cheap tricks, weapons, and any means at their disposal to win. In staging these setpieces, director Steward Lee and co. are clearly having an absolute blast. The visual language of the episode feels highly well-versed in Lucas' craft in the podracing sequence from The Phantom Menace, but it never feels beholden to it. Instead, The Bad Batch builds upon it and springboards off of it to some truly dazzling and ludicrously entertaining results.
